How best to prevent expensive conditions:
Intervertebral Disc Disease
Usually genetic. Most common in Dashshunds. Minimize the chance of IVDD by preventing your Corgi jumping off beds and furniture by providing a ramp.
Lung cancer
Minimize exposure to cigarettes and vehicle exhaust fumes.
Bloat
Most common in large dog breeds. Minimize condition by dividing meals into 2 or 3 per day, feed a mixture of wet and dry food, gradual for any diet shifts, food taken in quiet locations.
Foreign Body Injestion (small intestine)
Caused by the ingestion of an object that cannot pass thru the intestine. Common objects include underwear, panyhose, socks, coins and toys. Closely supervise your Corgi against eating/ swallowing household items etc. Provide indestructable toys.
Cruciate rupture
This is ligament rupture to knee. Rest Corgi when tired. Don't over-exercise.
Foreign Body Ingestion (stomach)
Similar to other but the object caught in stomach.
Pin in broken limb (fracture)
Most often from a hit by a vehicle. But also Corgis from being dropped or stepped on. Take special care when picking up a Corgi and keep Corgis off roads.
