Charlie weighed 15 lbs at 20 weeks, and I think he is probably going to end up small (he's 20-21 lbs now at 8 months). Females should be a little smaller than males, so Waerynn may end up just right.

Someone should produce a generalised chart that traces Pem and Cardi Corgis from 8 weeks and gives standard weight guides for medium size dogs thru their development to adulthood. It can be done with a bit of effort and collaboration.

The rule of thumb is a pound per week of age. At eight weeks, a corgi puppy should weigh in the neighborhood of 8 pounds for example. A five month old puppy should weigh around 20 pounds. Now, overall size, balance, proportions, bone, substance are all going to be factors; so some will come in a bit under and others a bit over. A petite built female at five months, then 15 pounds would be about right. You can always do a rib check and puppies should be a little plumper than you would want for an adult.

A pound per week of age for Corgis ( and remember there are marked differences between Cardis and Pems) is a little obscure because at 12 months we end up with a 52 pound Pem pup - and that aint right. We are eventually looking for a adult male Pem somewhere in the order of 25-28 lbs. There are also differences berween the medium of females and males.

She is getting a little bit thinner that she was when she was younger, but there doesn't seem to be too much of a difference when I touch her ribs, just a little different. She is losing a lot of her baby teeth lately and I think it's a little harder for her to eat, she takes longer and doesn't eat quite as much.

The pound per week rule of thumb works until they hit about six months, then they start hitting near 20 plus pounds and weight gain slows. There aren't marked differences between the two corgi breeds at this point. They begin adding weight a bit more slowly. Growth spurts can happen where they look fine one day and the next will be underweight. Sometimes you might have to increase food to keep up with the spurts (in Cardigans especially). Loosing teeth and their gums hurting can put them off their food a bit. You might want to try moistening Waeryn's food slightly to make it easier to chew.

Pembrokes in "show" condition, the "preferred medium-sized dog of correct bone and substance will weigh approximately 27 pounds, with females approximately 25 pounds." In Cardigans, males will be between 30 to 38 pounds and females 25 to 34 pounds.
