Cancer
We have one member on Go Corgi who wanted advice regarding treatment for her poor 6 - 8 year old Corgi who has cancer. Really there is little anyone can do because the full blown treament is far too severe and there is no real short term fix.
Cancer is the number one cause of death in dogs. One out of every three dogs will get cancer and half of these will die. THere is a new organisation set up for world canine cancer research. If anyone wants to make a contribution towards the work of this organisation, contact me and I'll provide the details. I would suggest that before any contributution is made, the credentials of the organisation be checked out by the potential donor. I have some thoughts how this can be done. |

Michael,
My corgi, Betsy who passed away in December had at one time(2 years ago) three different lumps on her, one the size of a pea. I had all three removed and each one was the start of a different type of cancer. My vet had never seen that before. Linda |

For those in the US, donations to the Canine Health Foundation <http://www.akcchf.org>, well you can't go wrong there. Pembrokes also have the PWCCA-CT on which more information can be found on the PWCCA site which is helping to fund health research in Pembrokes. Cardigans also have a health committee to which donations can be made.
One of the fund raisers for the PWCCA-CT is a series of Christmas ornaments done by some of the breed's favorite corgi artists. So far there are four in the series all utterly charming. I'll try to get some pictures of them all in a format where everyone can see them. Debbie |

Debbie - I think it is rather wicked of you to attempt to steer members away from this cancer research thing. The organisations you mentioned may not be concentrating on the dreaded cancer curse. In any case, this cancer research organisation is in the USA.
Linda - yes that is what the figures quoted are referring to - potential deadly cancer in one out of every three dogs and of those 50 percent die from the cancer. It's lucky to catch these things so early before the rot sets in. |
