Keeping a Corgi Girl Quiet - 03-21-2008, 09:28 AM

Well Taffy is home from being spayed and is just fine. You wouldn't know that she had been spayed. She wants to romp, play, chase and jump. She has been put in solitary confinement via crate in hopes she will sleep for awhile. Any suggestions, stories or ideas on how to keep her occupied for a few days? This is definitely going to be a trial.

Yeah! I'm glad she's home, as I know you and the boys missed her. I think I might try several short walks on leash per day. Maybe 10-15 minutes every 3-4 hours (or when she wakes up from naps and wants to play). The leash should help you keep her from jumping or running, but still get a bit of exercise. Aren't you glad it's only a few days, then she can go, go, go again?

I think part of the problem was she had a very full bladder. She walked quietly around the yard with the boys in the house and has peed several times. She probably didn't potty while she was gone. Hopefully, a nice long nap is in order.

If you have an old baby playpen, you could put her in that. She would be able to see everyone and everything, have a little room to move around in, and yet wouldn't be able to get too active.

I have an x pen that we are using also. We are trying everything but she has calmed down some. She just wants to play - poor little thing.

Westin just started to perk up today (his usual "park-day") and of course he is confined to the condo.... so I'm basically playing tug.... and tossing toys about 5 feet.... that's the only playing he gets for a couple days!

I wish you good luck! Pip popped a stich with all of his jumping and running around the house. Luckily it didn't require a re-do and healed normally. I ended up keeping him with me on a leash indoors and in his crate when I wasn't home. To be on the safe side, I would double check with your vet about walking. We had a list of restricted activities and it included no stairs, no getting the insision wet, running, jumping, walks and being outdoors off leash. I'm sure there may be others I'm forgeting. Good luck and keep everyone posted. I was so happy when the 2 week recovery period was over!

Just got back from a second trip to the vet on her peeing every few minutes. Urine test was fine and it is probably some inflammation.

She sounds like a typical puppy, seems they bounce back from spays and neuters very quickly.

Ok, I see in other posts that you have an x pen. Use that for her. Get her some things to chew on, a stuffed kong, nylabone (if you use those), or whatever your prefrence is.

Short walks, NO stairs or jumping till the stitches are out.

Good advice Peggy but she jumps in the xpen trying to get out. Can you imagine? I think she is having delusions of grandeur so the xpen is out but she has quieted down alot. She slept most of the evening on the sofa with me and then spent the night in her crate. Her peeing is about back to normal Thank Heavens - that really worried me.

oh boy...it sounds like this is what we have to look forward to...cammie will be up next month or so...was going to plan it for school vacaction so i wold be home to keep an eye on her but then thought that during school vaca is when i will want to be doing stuff with the dogs so i imagine during the week will be better as she is crated during the day when we are not home so she is forced to stay quiet then....guess that would work....have to ask vet what she thinks

What did you plan on doing with the dogs. If it's not running and jumping Cammie will be fine.
