9 week old male Corgi puppy

I was contacted a couple of days ago by an old neighbor who knows that we have Corgi's. She said that a co-worker of hers just bought a 9 week old male Corgi and has decided he isn't the dog for her. She asked if I could find a home. I have contacted Southern California Corgi rescue, and want to get the word out to anyone who might know someone who is looking for a Corgi puppy. If we could take on a third Corgi we would, but we don't think it would be good for any of them. The dog is in Southern California, and I would like to find a home for him asap, as the current owner is considering putting him down (I really can't believe anyone would do that!!!) unless she moves him on very soon. But that is what I have been told. Pleae contact me.

Debbie

There should be a law! I would hope that no veterinarian in this country would even consider putting down a 9 week old puppy. The woman shouldn't be allowed to own a goldfish.

Hopefully the regional Corgi Rescue group will be able to take him, or at minimum he should be placed in a no-kill shelter.

Has the breeder been contacted? maybe they would take it back?
=D I'm just about to go wake up Jim and ask him if we can get another!
(long shot, almost positive he'll say no, but I can ask!!!)
is it pure bred? gotten from a breeder or a pet shop?

The owner should be the one put down!!!!! I wish I lived close by. I would be able to snatch it a get it to a rescue, if not keep it for myself. (Oh dear....I could just hear my husband now....,3 dogs!)

Debbie, isn't there some way that you could at least get the dog from them?

i am trying to get all the additional info. I will be trying to take possession of the puppy on Monday or Tuesday and transfer him to either the rescue group or someone who wants to adopt him. I don't know if he was purchased from a reputable breeder, probably a pet shop. Not a good situation, but I will try to make sure he gets out of the place his is currently living.

I would be horrified if a vet in New Zealand put down a perfectly healthy, normally behaved pure bred Corgi let alone one that is a pup.
I'd get in touch with the breeder who if worthy of being called a breeder would take back a Corgi pup and even return some of the fees she/he charged to this wicked-minded owner.

Its heart breaking to think that anyone would even think about putting a baby corgi down. I live in Orange, CA (maybe very close to where the puppy is) and would love to temporarily house the puppy. We would love to have another corgi, Milo is the only spoiled dog at home, but due to financial reason, we will not be able to keep the puppy.

So, if its any help, we can house and take care of the little puppy for a few months. Please don't hesitate to contact me.

If the little Corgi pup was sent to New Zealand, I could find thousands of responsible people who would want him.

Bless you, Debbie, trying to take the puppy for that unworthy owner. And bless you, Milo, for offering to home the puppy, if even only for a little while. And Michael, bless you also, for saying your sure someone would take it in New Zealand. I'm sure you will be able to work something out between the 3 of you.

9 week old Corgi puppy

Thanks to everyone for the support. I got word that I can pick the puppy up on Tuesday, and the puppy is named Toby. If the rescue is not ready to take him, my husband and I will probably keep him for a couple of days. We have two 4 year old Pembroke's, they will probably love him. I too am sorry we can't take on another Corgi, but we will make darn sure Toby gets someplace where he is wanted.

Bless your heart for taking Toby in temporarily. He is one lucky boy! As a precaution, I would take him for potty breaks separate from your two dogs (unless the woman provides you with health records that he has been wormed). If he came from a pet store, he may even have kennel cough or something else where you would want to keep him quarantined from your dogs a bit. Not to scare you, but be prepared for anything. (I'm mainly not trusting that the current owner has taken any care of him whatsoever). Hopefully he's happy and healthy. Keep us posted!

9 week old Corgi

I agree with you, you never know. She says it is a 9 week old corgi, but it could turn out to be a 9 month old, and not a Corgi at all. I will have to deal with whatever I find on Tuesday, and I will be very careful of my dogs too.

OMG! I can't believe that this woman would actually have the baby put down because it is "not the dog for her". This chick shouldn't be allowed to have a dog at all....

Debbie, I hope you can find a home for Toby. I would love to take him, but my landlord would kill me.

A few people have commented on this. And while I agree the puppy should not be put down, the owner of the puppy does have the right to request that and if they do the vet is obligated to do so. As awful as that seems.

Sometimes a vet can talk the owner out of putting a healthy dog down and he/she and their staff then find a rescue or home for the animal. Vets don't like putting down healthy animals but sometimes they don't have the choice.

A rescue group would be able to find him a home fairly quickly.

Debbie, Where is he located? Has a rescue group been contacted? Debbie Campbell or I can put you in touch with a group close to you.

Peggy
