Corgi front paws - 06-26-2006, 09:24 PM

Ok I noticed on Pockets today it looks as if his front right (if looking at him) seems a little bigger boned then the other. I checked and made sure there wasn;t discomfort and he is not limping or has not changed his running level. I looked at some pictures and I seen a couple other corgi's that seemed to have one leg 'heftier' then the other for lack of anything better to say.

Is that a common thing that I just missed before or am I looking hopefully at other ones hoping something is not wrong with my baby? I just noticed it a lot today. But again nothing that seems to be bothering him. I will try to get some good pictures of it tomorrow but he is sleeping now.

Thanks
Penny

Penny - I'm certain that it is not 'normal' to have one bigger 'elbow' or knee on a Corgi's front leg than the other. Nor is it normal to have one leg fatter. Both should be identical. But pups are pups and sometimes they grow in 'funny' directions before getting it all together.

OK. I admit I am an idiot. It was more my eyes playing tricks on me. I have been watching very closely. It has to do with where his color changes on his legs and it was just messing with my mind. I think it was more paranoia on my part. I think that is why I am seeing it on here at other pictures too because of the coloring change. I had 4 people look and all think it is the color change.

Take it easy as you point and laugh!

Pocketsmom
Don't feel to bad about being paraniod. Last night I was convinced that one of Dudley's eyes stuck out more than the other. After careful examination, however, my husband informed me that I was, in fact, crazy
I think it just means we care alot!

Do all husbands think we are crazy the way we "mother" our Corgis and worry? At times, mine thinks I am over protective - I just tell him if he had a face that cute, I would pamper him too - ha.

Oh, this thread sounds just too familiar...I am constantly fretting over Chloe (much to my daughters' dismay, and I suspect, jealousy...) My current concern is the slope of her back. I am quite convinced her front legs are too short for her hind legs...(seriously)...so she appears to have a sway-back. Not that there is anything I can do about it, but it does make me worry...

Chloe - You're not dreaming. Perhaps the majority of Corgis do not have a great 'topline' ie a level back. The better the top line the more perfect in this regard is the Corgi. A lot of Corgis have dips -ranging from slight to very noticeable- and then some have a coat layer problem -wavy or 'extra' hair area which detracts from a nice straight topline. And indeed there is the topline that slants one way or the other. In Conformation showing there are a few things one can do to try and 'hide' a less than perfect topline. Stretching out the body is one method.

I think so too!

This story is about my husband & not me for a change being the worry wart.

When Dylan was teething, one ear fell, normal, as the calcium was going to his new teeth, and was only temporary.

My husband came home form work and was in a panic, he thought that Dylan had broken his ear and that we should rush him to the vet!

Thank you all for trying to convince me that I am not an idiot! Although I still disagree!! What not to do besides worry about my babies?!

PocketsMom -

You are not alone! I freaked out the first time I "noticed" that Foxy has "knees" because I thought I had hurt her with running around and going for too many walks.

I agree with Michael that they grow in funny ways because I notice all of these little things with her as she grows. Sometimes, I swear I can see changes that happened overnight! I guess that is all part of the fun of puppydom.

Yep i would say that is it! Again the difference I think is just his coloring. Big dog small body thing getting me, I am used to big dog big body!!

Thanks!

Penny,

Glad you figured out your "confusion/dilemma" . Markings can and do play havoc with one's eye sometimes. What can be seen in Cardigans and time to time in Pembrokes too, is some knuckling which will give the appearance of one leg/wrist being larger than the other. Pems that might be a little eastie/westie in the front - kind of shows up in them.

Chloe could have a soft topline, although a part of your description; I'm not sure if you are meaning she is looking high in the rear? One question is how old is she as they do go through various stages as they are growing up and maturing out.

That is what I love most about this site, we are all a little eccentric, paranoid, overly worried, and totally in love with our corgis. This is the best!
