I'm happy to hear that Dudley just had growing pains. And never feel bad about taking him to the vet if you think something is wrong.
Better to have it be nothing, and feel silly, than the alternative . . . that's my motto! (although I am sure my vet would like me to change it, so I will stop bothering him!)
