HELP! My corgi can barely walk!!!
My 7 yr. old has been dragging his hind legs, loses balance and falls over easily when he finally does get up to walk (and then he gets exhausted QUICKLY!) It's like he has no control of his rear end. Vet did X-rays - no signs of displasia or arthritis. Stated it could be a spinal cord issue or some other thing I can't prounounce, but he needs a myelogram (VERY expensive) just to correctly diagnose it & possible surgery!? Does anyone have experience with this or have any ideas what this could be? I can massage his back and legs and he doesn't seem to mind. Not sure if stretching would help? or chiropractic care? He's on Prednisone for the next week to see if it improves. I'll take any thoughts/ideas/suggestions..... he's our baby. HELP!!

Hi Annie
You had the same message on the Corgi.com discussion site several days ago and you got some very good advice from me and others. If you have not taken any action for your poor Corgi by now such as consulting with a more knowledgeable vet, then there is little chance your Corgi will ever recover. I can't believe Annie's message is for real. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 10-19-2005 at 02:56 PM. |

take no notice of him annie she's asking other people's advice not just your's. I no something like that happened 2 my nan's sister's corgi ill ask her what was the matter with it and what they done to help. some people jus generally worry enough 2 ask for more advice and like 2 no other people's opinions and knowing other peoples corgi's who have had this are fine mite give her a piece of mind, doesn't mean her message isnt "for real"

Quite simply put, you just don't muck around when things like this happens to your Corgi including asking around on the internet over a period of several days when urgent veterinary attention is required. In any case the person in question had already received ample advice on another website.
This all happened six months ago. Why resurrect it now? |

My 13 1/2 year old Corgi had problems during the holidays with walking.
Her back feet would spread out from underneath when she was on our tile floor and at times did not have the strength to stand back up. Of course, we had her under vet care immediately. He had her on Rimadyl for a bit, but soon after she lost her appetite and had fluid buildup in her lungs and the vet suspected liver cancer - we had to put her down, it was extremely sad and so unexpected to have everything happen so fast. |

It's very sad when these things happen so suddenly and unexpectedly. One moment all is going well and the next - uh oh. On the bright side, you tend to appreciate your next Corgi even more. I know that Taylor, my three year old, is better managed than any of my others. You just don't stop learning and refining Corgi management.
