I do the same thing with the measuring cup in the container.

I did not realize that carrots naturally have more sugar than fresh apples

I am thinking, in a pinch, we could always use green beans, carrots and other veggies that come already pureed in the baby food jars; since there is not added salt in them.

No, I would not use those with onions - I just thought on occasion, one might use the vegetable ones. And you are right, fresh is always the best route to go.

Speaking of diet etc, I can't seem to give Dillon anything out of the ordinary- I feed him the same food all the time ( lamb and sweet potato Wellness, dry with small bit of same kind canned and organic lowfat plain yogurt) and since he was a puppy he would get the runs if he ate other foods out of his normal meals. I was using baked chicken pieces for training in school and the day after every week after eating those treats he would get the runs. My husband and I talked it over and decided to try something - we bought lamb shoulder and bbq'd it with nothing on it and cut it into small training pieces and used that at the next class, no runs. So if i keep his protien source the same i have no issues. Oatmeal does not seem to make him ill- He had granola bones that never make him ill, but if i give him more than two baby carrots or one 1/2" cube of apple or more than a 1/2" piece of string cheese, I will be cleaning him up a bit the next day. I started giving him holistic health extra fiber in his food and this seemed to firm things up well and did not have trouble at all unless he eats something off his usual diet. What do you think is up with this? allergies? sensitive tummy?

Oh yes, i keep a half cup measuring cup in the dry dog food container too! Always measure!

I think it could very well be food Allergies, as Cody has the same problem; plus he was always biting at his back feet; but I understand that could be the result of airborne allergies also.

He is on the Natural Balance food,(single protein) either Venison and Rice or the Fish and Sweet Potato - prior to that, he would have very loose stools; and after being on these foods he has been fine. I think it was either Chicken, beef or wheat that was bothering him.

However, I can and do feed him small amounts of apples and other veggies/ and on occasion, I have given him string cheese and he is fine with that

I do buy him the freeze dried lamb liver Snax from Drs. Foster and Smith - I get the big tub and cut the cubes into smaller pieces - he is fine eating that. Also for training, I have used the "Canz" brand treats...
www.canz.com from New Zealand - you can get Lamb Liver Jerkey, Venison Jerkey and Fish and Venison(and other flavors) - they are soft and I also cut those into smaller pieces - they Cost about $7 for a 4 ounce package. I am able to buy these in town at the place where I board Cody.

And one last thing was the Eagle Pack Holistic hard biscuits which are menhaden fish meal with apples, carrots, peas and sweet potatoes - these stink though; but he likes them and they don't upset his tummy.

EXCELLENT suggestion and one I had forgotten. Every food bin I have has a one cup measuring cup right in it. I also have a scoop that is supposed to be one cup, but found out that if you fill that sucker up to heaping it is more like 1 and 2/3 cups! You MUST measure the food, every single time no matter how well you think you can "eyeball" it!

I'm afraid I can't add much help about the feeding issue... but I wanted to say "hi" anyhow! I grew up in FWB, FL so it's nice to see someone from my home area! We are an Air Force family and stationed in UT right now but hope to get back closer to home some day... all of both mine and my husband's family is in the Crestview area now so we try to get back and visit whenever we can. Best wishes for you corgi on a new diet!
