My name is Kathy and this is my first time to send or receive info on this
web site.

I am a new owner of a 3yr old Corgi named Sammy. He is a beautiful golden
and white corgi without a tail. He is also overweight and I will appreciate any
advice on how to streamline him. I want him to be healthy and I am having a difficult time finding info
on how to care for him.

My name is Linda and my Pem boy Cody, is 11 months old.

Did you get Sammy from a rescue, and how long have you had him?

Could you tell us more ;such as how much does Sammy weigh and what are
you currently feeding him right now and how much of the food per day?

and I will also ask what type of exercise does he get during the day?

Just search for weight or diet. Also, there are many knowledgable people that will be able to offer you advice. How did you happen to get Sammy. I bet he is adorable. Please send pics.

I have a 9 month old red and white corgi named Milo. He's very precious to us.

Please give us a bit more background information on Sammy. What kind of diet is he on now? What food do you give him and how much exercise does he get?

I'm Deb owner of Rupert, male tri-colour 4.5 years old Pembroke and Jemma, female red and white, 9 months old.

I second the posts above me. Weight loss works the same for dogs as people, it's science. Less or lower calorie food and more exercise. I prefer to use low cal dog food, so they can still have quantity - that's what Rupe eats as he's a big boy. Find a good quality brand of lower calorie food and read the package for recommended feeding amounts for the desired weight. I feed mine twice a day as I personally feel eating once a day is not enough for active dogs. Get Sammy moving inside with games of fetch,get him out walking and if you have a fenced in area fetch outside too! He'll certainly benefit from the exercise and the special time with you!
There's lots of folks here that can help you learn how to be a great Corgi owner/ownee! Let's see some photos of Sammy soon!

Welcome Kathy and Sammy. Your golden and white Corgi without a tail is probably better described as red and white or fawn (if he is a very light shade of red) and white Pembroke Corgi.
For an overweight Corgi at three years it is easy to reduce their weight gradually over a fairly short period. It is just like reducing weight for humans - a regime of regular and partially intensive exercising and a reduced size of meal with particular emphasis on lean ,non fattening food items.

Exercising should be 50 minutes to one hour a day. Ideally off-leash to include natural romping and running by Sammy but alternatively, 30 minutes of power walking early morning and another. 30 minutes at some other part of the day/night. Once a week take Sammy for a long haul - one hour to two hour walk or off-leash romp.

The equivalent of one meal day only - can be divided into two parts ie half in morning and the other half in the evening with say, a large quality biscuit at around midday. Meal- less kibble (dry food) more lean meat ( either fresh or fresh from frozen).

Hi Kathy, and a big hug to Sammy: My sable Pembroke is also three years old and weighs around 35 pounds at the moment, a few pounds too many according to the vet. I easily trained her to walk on my treadmill, and I have never had to use a harness or collar her to do this, just tell her to walk and she does. She loves it. Miss Gambler also travels with me when I commute for work, a 10 hour drive, so being creative with exercise is a must, and the treadmill is something that I can find in any hotel even if I can't walk her outside at the time she needs some exercise. Again, welcome, hope to see a photo of Sammy!
