Nice to meet you!

Hello! My name is Amanda. My husband and I are planning to get a corgi within the next several months. We're using this time to prepare our home and lay up a stash of toys and goodies. What's the fun of having an adorable dog in your life if you can't spoil him rotten?

I'll be sure to share pictures as soon as the new puppy arrives. Until then, I'm excited to see all of your dogs and live vicariously through you!

Welcome Amanda,

I have a 4.5 year old male tri-colour named Rupert and a 9 month old red and white female named Jemma.

Do you have a breeded that you are getting the pup from? Although I live in Canada - Rupert came from Indianna.

If you want to get in the mood, check out all the photos in the galleries.

You will not regret the time that you are spending in preparation because it is such a big step. I have a very spoiled three year old Pembroke, Miss Gambler, and I just found this site a couple of weeks ago. I feel that this is a wonderful sounding board for issues with our Corgis(ie babies) and it is nice to know that there are others out there that we can go to with questions, or to just share a little Corgi fun with! Welcome, and send photos.

Hi Amanda,

Welcome to the forum. Utilize the site to answer your questions regarding owning a corgi. It takes a lot of time and effort but it's one of the most rewarding things in life - to own a corgi. Truly a blessing. I wish I found out about this site when I first got Milo. But now, I visit this site religiously! It helps a lot.

Welcome Amanda! I know you must be so excited. I agree with Fluffy pants that seeing puppy pictures when your new baby arrives will give us all a bout of puppy fever- I can't wait to see your new baby. I think we all love to spoil our babies. Corgis really are so much fun, mine is a red and white pembroke named Dillon, he is 17 months old and the love of my life! There are tons of great posts on housebreaking, feeding, handling training questions and basic corgi stuff. This site is a great place for information. Welcome
Emilie

Hi Amanda,
I am looking forward to the day you are a Corgi owner/dayand night caregiver.
Don't be too concerned about toys - dogs do not need a lot of them and some can get sick of them all very quickly. Go for quality and not quantity. Though I have a friend whose dog. Partly Bluett treasures all his toys and possessions. Whenever Partly is told he is going for a holiday by car, he will grab all his toys from all over the place and stack them neatly alongside the car. Partly deserves his own suitcase or at least a travelling bag.

Welcome to the site Amanda!!! Corgi puppies are the cutest

Micheal, Partly Bluett is really sweet to bring his toys along for a trip!
I agree that they do not need alot of toys, I give Buta 1 toy at a time. Until she destroys it then she will get a new one She is really picky too, does not play with balls or bone shaped toys (unless it can be eaten)

Hi Amanda and Welcome to Go Corgi,

It is great that you are planning so far in advanced. I for one can tell you that you don't need to stack up on a lot of toys - like someone I know did

My dog, Cody is 11 months old and I could pick out 6 or 7 favorites and he could do without the rest.

Some of Cody's favorite toys are his squeaky hedgehog, a Babbleball(his number one favorite), a laser light bouncy ball, a Gorilla that makes noises, a soft fabric frisbee, a very lightweight indoor ball that he likes to push around and a soccer size ball that he loves to push around outside. If he only had these toys in his basket, he would be happy. He also has a few hard bones for chewing and a treat ball that he enjoys now and then.

Do you have a preference for a male or female Corgi?

Partly Bluett - named after him being a cross bred (hence Partly) and after the surname of the person who gave him to my friend (his dad, Bluett), is a great dog - Taylor learnt how to tunnel for agility by going under the long legged Partly's body.

Welcome to the Forum!!

I'm a new Corgi Mom myself, and this site has been quite a resource for tips and tricks for your little one! Not only will you find what to do, you'll also find typical Corgi Behaviors before-hand (They "herd" humans too!) . . . My baby Tex has been such a delight in our home. . she's a beautiful face to wake up to and to see first thing coming home from work.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Welcome Amanda! You've come to the right place for Corgis—a variety of knowledgeable Corgi owners here. I have a 6 ½ month old Corgi named Penny. She’s the first dog I’ve ever had and I can’t say enough wonderful things about the breed.

Emilie’s (dillydoodle’s) post about all the great threads on housebreaking, feeding and so forth is right. The search function on this site is very useful.
