Weekend with the corgis...
Just thought that I would start this just to see, and prove, just how we work our Corgis into our schedule. What does everyone have planned for the weekend, and how does their Corgi fit in? (I think that I will see that our Corgi is treated no different than if it was a child, we have to think of, and plan around them.) Also, Miss Gambler, who is well, will be leaving with me for Las Vegas tonight, we travel at night as much as possible to avoid the semis).

I plan to take Jackie to the park this weekend, and also shopping for a winter jacket (for her, not me). I would like to take her to my goddaughter's birthday party - but my sister won't let me.
And while we are home, I will most likely use Jackie as an excuse to keep me from cleaning and organizing the den and the office! I could clean, but . . . Jackie needs attention!

She has all those fancy outfits/neck things she could wear - I bet your goddaughter's mom is afraid that jackie would steal the "show" No excuse not to clean, just give Jackie her own broom to use or she could become your own personal mop

Sadly (mostly for them & my nieces/nephews, but also for me) my sisters do not like dogs. When functions are at my parents' house, I bring her. But this is at my sister's house, so I can't. I guess I have to respect others' wishes (no matter how silly) when it's their own house.
![]() ps - Jackie is great at MAKING the mess, not so good at CLEANING it (unless said mess is edible, of course)

Jessica - Why doesn't your sisters like dogs? Please clarify.
My weekend usually with Milo is to take him for walk - dog run, dog park, beach, etc. Whatever fits. The weekend is also the time we like to bathe him, comb him, trim his nails, brush his teeth, etc. We take a lot of pride and care in doing that. After all the cooking and cleaning chores are done, we like to have Milo watch TV with us. Simple routine but we treasure quality time. |

Mmm, I'll take Jackie, or a whole bus-load 'a Corgis over kids at my place any old time! (I do like kids, just prefer dogs).
Anywho. Our weekend plans are to drive (when I say "our" I mean the dogs and me, by the way) to the big leash free park about half an hour away tomorrow morning for a good romp. It's cold and there are snow flurries today, so they will be in good form. I worked from home today so by doing laundry today, it buys us extra time on the weekend.

Well, I have a lot of studying to do this weekend. So it's likely that Rhys will spend a lot of time napping/chewing and Andy will spend a lot of time in my lap. We will also see their friend Lulu at least once, for some playtime. Sunday, I work at PetSmart but Lulu's Mommy will stop by and check on them while I'm gone. So, I'll be seeing a lot of my dogs this weekend.

Jespah: Just curious, but do you really enjoy the off leash parks, and do they seperate by the dog's size? I am assuming that your dog is extremely socialized and gets along with other breeds, but doesn't it scare you?

Let me jump in - we love the off-leash park! Rhys can hold his own against the big dogs and they get too rough, I always step in before things can escalate (I let Rhys have his freedom, but am never too far away - which means I get exercise too!).
You just have to be careful and keep a good eye on your dog. Some people go and talk on their cellphones or chat and completely ignore their pups - that is an accident waiting to happen. I should add: Rhys is EXTREMELY sociable to other dogs, which helps. Oh, and our dog park has a "general" area (commonly known as the big dog side, but any dog can come in) and an area for dogs under 20 pounds. |

I avoid small contained leash-free parks. I have had trouble in those with other dogs coming after mine. Riley was like a magnet to some very unpleasant dogs and she was "attacked" - not to the point of breaking skin, on a few occassions.
Rupe actually isn't very good with other dogs as he is very protective of his neighbourhood. The leash-free I'm going to is like nuetral territory for him and he often has a good time with the other dogs - he loves beagles and Jacks for some reason. This place is very large and I actually walk around it with them running along. We do a circuit in about 20 minutes, depending on meeting other dogs or people. The other leash-free is the same idea, I walk the romp along with me. Yes, I do worry about them, but I think it's very good for them and I am the most paranoid dog Mum you're gonna ever meet, so I'm vigilant as I can be.

Well, We just got back from our trip to NC the other day...and of course with the weather there being so lovely ( morning was about 50 degrees and getting up into the mid to high 70's while we were there, sunny skies, sigh) we were out with DIllon quite a bit...lots of extra walks, walking around the huge golf course...which he loves and also playing in the yard flushing out rabbits ( he found three!) It was a lot of extra exercise and fun there. However, we are now back in CT and it is really cold...it is 24 degrees this morning, and while he is loving the cool air, I am less than excited. Dillon is with me nearly all the time, so i never really have to "fit him in' as he is always there and the center of attention ( in my world at any rate). I will say that i make sure he gets his two walks a day, no matter what...rain, snow, cold, heat doesnt stop me, only might change the times i take him or in the case of rain ( which he is not so exicted about) or excessive heat I will shorten the walk a bit. So even though I am freezing cold right now, I will be suiting up to take him for his usual 1.5 -2.25 mile morning walk...which he will love...and I, well...whimper whimper...will suck it up for the sake of the Dilly doo!

I actually had grown up plans for Saturday evening ( dinner w/ friends then a hockey game). That means the morning belongs to the Corgis. We started at the elementary school where Tuck and Lu walked, practiced recall, and ran leash free around the athletic fields. Then I needed to do some shopping so they sat patiently in the car while I made a quick once thru at HomeDepot, grabbed a bagel, then a few groceries. We were right next to Petsmart so we took a few laps around Petsmart and said hello to people and dogs, stared at the fish (Lulu gets mesmerized).
Then home to the yard. Both Tuck and Lu found SOMETHING God awful to roll in. Ughhhhhh! So it was emergency bath time. Boy are they soft and sweet smilling today! Today, Sunday, was a quick walk around the Elementary School then lots of yard work. After a few "timeouts" for chasing and biting at the wheels of the wheelbarrow, both decided to entertain themselves playing in the creek. I got all my flower beds cut back, raked, and ready for winter. Nap time for all this afternoon. And now Go Corgi time for me and they are running around the house acting like maniacs. Lulu has a Sunday night ritual of emptying the toy box of every single thing I picked up and bringing everything back onto the living room rug.
