Warning signs and such

In a thread titles "I need a Puppy" there has been a lot of ideas and different opinions flying around, but maybe we should educate people about what to look for in a kennel, what to avoid, what should make you run away! etc, etc.
I think it will be a fun topic to discuss with people and we may be helping someone make a better decision as to where to get a puppy from- corgi or otherwise.

So- in the above mentioned post this link was given as someone who has corgi pups for sale

so what I notice first is that they have multiple breeds- and cross breeds.
Warning sign #1

The "Pre-Holiday Special" and "Purchase a puppy between November 1st through December 1st and get $25.00 off"
Warning sign #2

there are many more but I will leave some fun for someone else!
Anyone else????

Just a word of caution here. While doing an educational post about warning signs is not a bad idea (I've done a post in the Puppy Buying forum about what to look for in a website and such), naming names is not necessarily a good idea and can have legal ramifications.

I would delete this thread if I were you, it would be stupid for you to leave yourself open for a lawsuit.

Theres a fine line to walk between freedom of speech and slander.

I admire your passion for wanting to educate people, I too feel the same way.

I think its wonderful to give the public warning signs to avoid when looking for a breeder, just cover your behind.

Amanda,

I agree with the others. If you want to talk about what to look for in a breeder or warning signs, that is fine. You could just say you were searching the internet and point out something that you found being advertised and then that could be discussed and no names would have to be mentioned.

It would be nice if there was an active moderator on right now as they could remove your entire thread or advise you. If I were you, I would edit it as best you can or delete the entire thing.

Amanda,

Just go back in your post and edit it. Delete out the link and then we can proceed. The other thread can be referred to for the link and comments posted here. No real direct public connection.

Hmmm... I agree with everyone and Debbie is correct and very prudent about legal ramifications. However it is an excellent idea to post in general about good vs. not so good kennels or even about how to spot a puppymill. Living in Lancaster PA, i'm aware and active about stopping puppymills and people do need educated about this topic.
Bad signs of a not so good breeder I discovered while searching for Milo:
1. The breeder won't let you see where the dogs really live, or brings one
puppy out at a time for you to look at.
2. The puppies don't look clean or have runny eyes or noses. Worse yet you
get a long convoluted story about why they kind of look sick.
3. The property isn't reasonably well maintained.
4. No reputable breeder will ever ever sell to a store. They love their breed
and want to decide who gets to buy from them. They lose that control
if they would sell to a store.
5.The breeder is defensive or evasive about answering your questions and
they don't ask you questions. A good breeder will question you almost as
much as you quesiton them because they want to make sure their puppy
is going to a loving responsible home.

The best thing I learned is: Trust your instincts, if it doesn't feel right to you, walk away. Anything worth having is worth waiting for.

Boy, I sure got on a diatribe. Sorry.
