Hi... meet Miss Bernie!

Just a few of my little girl "Bernie". She's registered "Bernice Brisen Ringo" but we call her Bernie for short. She's actually my first dog and I did tons of breed research before deciding to go ahead with a PWC. She was born August 25, 2006 and is a little over three months old.

Miss Bernie was found after a five year wait to get a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. My spouse and I were watching a few horses in the warm up ring at a jumpers show and looked down to see this little dog rolling around in the dirt having a great time and making grunting noises. It was the cutest dog I'd ever seen and I didn't recognize the breed straight away. I ended up doing some research and found out what type of breed it was. They ended up being everything I wanted in a breed should I ever want to get a dog. We waited five years and decided to go ahead and search out a good breeder. We found one in Texas and Miss Bernie arrived on October 21st!

She's got lots of personality, very friendly with people and she begins her first puppy obedience class next Saturday. I've started her on clicker training and so far she's learned sit, touch, leave it, and we're beginning "down" which she's picked up pretty well. We've implemented the NILIF program as well which she's sort of gotten the hang of. The cats are getting used to her slowly, now one of them will even play with her in his own special way.

Anyway so hi, so glad I found these forums with lots of other corgi owners.

Welcome to the board! Your Bernie is just 10 days younger than my Zia. This is a great board. The people here are very nice and there is a lot of great advice on this board, too.

Bernie has personality written all over her face.

It took me a long time to teach Taylor to go down from sit or down from stand, and that the down didn't mean a sideways lie or a roll on ones back. He has to train to go down for agility purposes when the 'obstacle' is a table. He has to jump onto the table at speed and go 'down' on command. The down must be a proper down position with the bottom of the chest touching the table, and the judge counts to five and then its a flying leap off and onto the next obstacle.

It also now means that I can't say 'down' for other kinds of instructive speak such as 'get down.'

Anyways, very cute is Bernie - I suppose other names for her could have been Ringlet and Brazen

Welcome, and Bernie is really cute, I love her markings. I have a very spoiled three year old Pembroke, Miss Gambler, and a Dachshund puppy that she recently found. This is a great place to be educated or just have some Corgi fun, look forward to seeing more of Bernie.

Welcome and Bernie is adorable! I love the flying squirrel positon in the second photo...way too adorable. She is beautiful and I am sure you will find they are such characters and so much fun. I am a first time dog mom to a now 18 month old red and white Pembroke named Dillon. The obedience classes are great, they teach us how to effectively teach our pups. I did a lot of research on training prior to getting Dillon but there is nothing better than hands on training , in a class with other dogs around- that is the best..and a great way to start socializing as well. Glad you found us..

Welcome to the Board - I am owned by a 10 month old corgi named Chip who is the light of my life. Obedience classes are great fun and you will learn alot. I have just started practicing the nothing in life is free program with Chip and Maybelle (a mix I found in a field) However, Chip has also learned that it works both ways and he doesn't want to do much for free.

Micheal:

I made that mistake of teaching Chip down when he would jump up on somebody or put his feet on the coffee table, etc and he does it well. However, once I got in obedience class the "down command" would have only confused Chip so I tell Chip to lay down and that works.

I tried teaching her down on a step since thats what I've seen other people do with short legged dogs, but that didn't work out very well. I did it on the floor and she'll do it with a "down" hand command but now we need to move to voice as well. She's very smart, especially when it comes to finding dirty socks on the floor.

Thanks everyone I look forward to reading all kinds of corgi specific stuff.

Welcome to you and Bernie, she certainly is a sweetie! I love her smile & her blaze.

I have 2 Pems as you can see from my avatar, Montrose (aka Monty) she is 12 now & Dylan 9. We've participated in herding, agility & Ob classes. Dylan has gone on this year to get his CD, CGN (High in Class) & FN which is Freestyle Dog, Novice. We are currently going back to classes learning Canine Dressage.

I think my favourite pic of Bernie, so far, is the one on Dogster, she is looking up at you from her bowl & red ball.

Puppy K is such fun! Looking forward to getting to know you both, & hope you'll share updates on Bernie's classes.

Oh la la... Bernie is a sweetie!!!
Welcome to u & Bernie.
Just like u, we fell in love with a Corgi the moment we saw it.
The more we research about it, it is everything we are looking for.
Corgis generally are fast learners, Dex learnt all the commands without hesitation.
