Hello Susan,

My name is Linda. How long have you had your new pup and is he a Pem or a Cardi?

Would love to see pictures if you get a chance to post them.

This is a great site for naming Corgis - anything from a typical and untypical Welsh race name, to an 'endearing' American name to something a little more exotic. Then we can give pointers, such as what about a name that is associated or word-forming with your Pem's pedigree name (presuming he has one). For instance if he was, let's say Kingfisher Presidential Suite of Maryland. You could name him Fisher, Prince (for King), Bush (or Bushy) or Clinton (presidential), Marty (for Mary) and so on.

Susan, There are so many sources for interesting names!! Since I was the one who "pushed" for both our dogs, when my husband came up with the names each time I said "GREAT IDEA, Honey!!" Our first dog, a Corgi mix, was named "Wimsey" for one of my husband's favorite novelists, Dorothy Sayer's character Lord Peter Wimsey... We are HUGE fans of the TV show "24" so I suppose Chloe's name actually came from the character there (I was planning to use the name 'Zelda', as in F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife...but...)

Anyway - there are two potential name sources: literature and TV...in addition to Michael clever suggestion!!

Hi Susan:

Another Susan here in balmy upstate NY with Tucker (soon to be 2 years old Pem) and Lulu (7 months old constantly chewing something Cardi).

Tucker was named for the red & white Pem in the Rita Mae Brown books writtne thru the eyes of her cat Mrs. Murphy ahnd her sidekick Tee Tucker (the Pem).

Lulu was named Lulu because I got a kick out of it. And she has grown into her name! She is a total Lulu!

Good luck fining a name for your wonderful Pup. Looking forward to watching him grow up.

Welcome Susan!

This a great site for first-time Corgi owners.

My little girl, Mazie, will be one-year old on December 20th - the year has gone by so fast...

It's hard naming a dog. I know we came up with names for our children easier. Although you have to call the puppy something so it gets used to being called, I think it might be best to wait until you see the personality develop. For instance the name I originally named my pup was Jaime after a red headed hero from my favorite series of books, then changed it to Jesse, but if I had it to do over again now I'd name him Tigger because he's constantly jumping high or doing flips (circular jumps) (he's now 11 months old). We can call our pets several names, after all they know who is calling them. There are many unique and cool names of dogs on this site. Look around, someone else might have had a great idea. I'd pick a name you can say easily though because you never know when you'll have to call the dog quickly to keep it out of harms way. Best of luck with your furry baby. He'll bring you much joy. And welcome to this site. ~Shelly
