New here & Cardigan addicted -

Hi everyone! So thrilled to have found this site. I am always searching for cardi info. I have 3 cardigan corgis, and a baby on the way from Arkansas in a couple of weeks. It will be great to read other owners thoughts and input about their corgis, and living with them, although mine own me! My children are the heart of our home, and there is never a dull moment. Looking forward to reading what everyone has to say. I love talking about my children!!

Welcome. I have a 4 yr old female Cardigan and love talking about them also. The more each person participates in the forum discussions the better this site becomes.

I am thinking about getting a Cardigan from a woman in Arkansas too. Betty Ann Seely. Has anyone heard of her? Is she a reputable breeder?

Just curious- in a previous post you wanted to know about reputable breeders in California. If you live in the California area, then if Betty Ann Seely from Arkansas is willing to ship you the puppy she is probably not a reputable breeder. Am I missing something?

Betty Ann Seely is well known in the show world and her Pecan Valley Cardigans do some impressive winning. She is a CWCCA member and is a sweeps judge for supported entries around the country.
Off the top of my head I'm not sure if any of the CA breeders have puppies right now, but distance wise, I would first try to network with them or even some of the Oregon or Washington state folks. Someone should be able to help with a lead.

Hi, All of my corgis came from Betty Ann Seely and they are absolutely beautiful!! She is a reputable breeder, and puppies are shipped all the time. There are a lot of rules and regulations for this, so that the puppies are safe and health regulated. I am waiting for my baby now, as they have to be 8 weeks old. He is amost 7 weeks now. Cannnot wait!! She is a nice person and cares for her dogs!

Liz2001,
If you can drive to Arkansas to pick up the puppy, I'd certainly try to do so. It's very traumatic for the puppy to be separated from everything it knows in the first place. Then to be "boxed up" and shipped on top of it. I drove 600 miles to pick up Kali (my avatar photo) and we had a wonderful time bonding on the 600 mile trip back home.
Most breeders that really care about the wellbeing of the animal will not ship them. I'm quite suprised that this breeder has built such a reputation yet is willing to ship a puppy.

Gee whiz, I thought Puppies flying to a destination is not the world's worse experience for them. If I had a huge faith in a breeder, "shipping" the pup from a few hours to several hours away wouldn't be seen as a hurdle. My Taylor flew in from an hour's flight. And his recovery time was instant. Granted he was 13 weeks old, but the only reason for that was the breeder kept him on longer(which I believe is a very good thing under any circumstance) so she could make sure the pup was right for me.
Pups flying from NZ to Australia or the Southern Pacific Islands can be as young as two or three months but those going further afield, must be six months old.
What's the problem getting a Corgi puppy from another State?

hello, the puppies are not "boxed up", they are in a crate with food and water, and the crate is useful for bedding and training purposes when you get the baby home. there are rules and regulations that must be abided by to fly. i have not run across a breeder yet that did not ship. dogs are shipped all the time for breeding purposes, shows, etc. however, it is best if you can pick up the baby, but sometimes it is not feasible. i live 800 hundred miles away, and 3 corgis at home that i do not want to leave.

Since options are limited between NZ and Australia you do what needs to be done. Since the states are all connected by fairly well kept roads, why risk the safety of the pup to airline employees that really don't care what's in the "box". I know it's not a cardboard box. But it's still handled by strangers and stowed in a dark cold scary place on the plane.
Granted, puppys do tend to recover quickly from the confusion of being transported away from their original environment. I'm of the belief that if you can avoid exposing the pup to any more confusion and trauma than is really needed, you might want to try.
I guess it really comes down to personal preference. Me, I'd take the time off work and bring my other dogs with for a road trip. That's obviously not something everyone can do.

I live in California and am looking for a cardigan puppy. There may be some available a 2 hour drive away from me in about 6 weeks. But I also heard about Betty Ann Sealy's puppies in AR. I wanted to know from those more experienced if it is common and safe to have the puppy shipped. It sounds like most people are saying it is common.
