Saying hello from Wales
Hello. I am Laura and I live with my two corgis in Wales, UK- home of our darling little dogs.
My corgis are called Sooty, aged 9, a black-headed tricolour and Cindy, aged 7, a retired Champion show dog who Sooty and I adopted in 2005, also a tri but not as dark as Sooty.

Welcome to the board. I have Chip an almost 1 year old pem boy and soon to have Dale. They say corgis are like potato chips, you can't have just one. Would love to hear how you came to adopt Cindy

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Sooty came to live with me when he was 9 months old- he had failed as a show dog and was a very shy, scared little dog. Now he is full of confidence but still a quiet sweet-natured dog. My father who is 92 and has had many dogs in his life says Sooty is the best dog he has ever known. Cindy Birdsong is a Champion bitch, who lived for the first 5 years of her life with her wonderful breeders. She had two litters who have all gone on to do well. My friend has her grand-daughter. One of her last litter is in the USA- called Aled who I know has been showing well in the US. Perhaps someone knows him? My friend told her breeder friends that I was looking to adopt an older dog and they graciously allowed me to have Cindy. She has now been spayed, put on weight and so is now on a strict diet ( like me too after Christmas!!) As you can imagine Cindy is the boss in the house and Sooty loves her to bits.

We actually have another member from Wales - but I think that young person has gone on to better things ( hopefully).
Corgis are not as popular or in abundance in Wales as one from the outside would imagine. Can Laura throw some light on this? I feel I have an affinity with Wales through my Pems and I respect Welsh rugby - though not a certain rugby journo called Stephen Jones - and have added Welsh names to the first two of my three children. There is a lovely 'monument' to Pems in the South Island of New Zealand city of Christchurch. Is there anything publicly dedicated to the Corgi in Wales? Laura may not have picked up that I am a Kiwi. |

Hi Susan, Sooty, and Cindy -
I live in Texas with my two sibling Corgis, Andy (tri girl) and Rhys (r/w boy - nice Welsh name). I have a Welsh last name!

As for rugby- don't worry Welsh rugby supporters dislike that journalist too- we're ashamed he calls himself Welsh. We have two of your countrymen playing for my rugby team ( Llanelli Scarlets) at the moment- one is a prop called Craig Dunlea, the other has just been voted by Planet Rugby as the best centre in the world at the moment, Regan King. He has signed for us until 2009 and has apparently refused offers from a Super 14 team this week as he likes playing here. How NZ let him slip away I don't know- what an awesome player. Cannot think of a corgi memorial here- I did live in Pembroke for 7 years and didn't see one there. We have a little statue of a herring and a plaque that the Queen unveiled on our beach promenade- Sooty went passed a few days later and licked the plaque as if he knew the Queen liked corgis. Cindy has a half -brother in the Palace by the way.So ONE is related to royalty!

Hi Laura,
My name is Linda and my 1 year old pem boy is Cody, Your two look adorable. Michael will be quite envious that you have a connection to the Queen with Cindy having a half brother at the palace. Do you think there is chance that Michael could possibly get an interview with the Queen about her corgis? some of us are interested in knowing how well behaved they are.
