Intro

Hello

Our family Me Donna, Hubby and 3 girls 16-12 just had our first PWC come live with us- we had never considered even having a Corgi to be honest I wanted a dashound.. But in a round about way a Corgi came to us.. We have named her Emmye and she is 1 1/2 yr old..

I can not believe we have not heard more great things about this breed she is GREAT-

The previouse owner would like to breed her in July and get pick of the litter and one other person get one, then the rest are ours..

The girls are so excited-

her our pictures

Welcome to gocorgi. Emmye is a pretty girl. I would love to hear more about the "round about way" she came to be with you.

Hello Donna

Emmye is really cute. I also would like to hear how Emmye joined your family.
We do have a couple of other people from Michigan on here.

Welcome to GC Donna, Emmye and family.

I have an Emma too and a Chloe. My Em is the blond on the left

Yes we all think that a corgi is the best! If you have any questions feel free to ask or check out other threads from the forum page..

Welcome Donna and Emmye. I've seen your introduction on some of the other discussion lists as well.

So let me get this right - you are her third home? or did you sister pick her out for you from the vet's she works at and bring her home? Personally I'd have a real problem with the proposition this first owner has presented. <IMHO> it is really rather galling. IF the owner just couldn't get along with her, then that temperament is going to be passed along to any puppies she has too. That he conveniently just happens to have a male to breed her to, also pretty unsettling.

You can look in the archives here for a post I did on breeding - the joys and the risks, and there are risks whether some wish to acknowledge they exist or not.

IF she were mine, I'd spay her now and enjoy her for many, many years to come and keep her former owner out of her life.

Hello

Emmye is great we have had no problems with her temperment except that she is one and full of energy and our other dog is almost 11 and does not want to play as much as Emmye does... so it is more a Kirby problem then a Emmye problem..

As far as the story goes-

According to what I know- One of the girls at the vets office know Emmye owner and he was saying how him and her did not get along- but he has other Corgi's and they are great- he says that he bought her and a male from two different good blood lines.. to breed..

So the lady at the vets office said let me see if she would fit in my family ,well she has a lot of Dogs and after a week she decided that one more was just to much and that her other dogs were having a hard time with a new dog. So she was telling my sister in law this and she said well I will take her home with me and brought her home, well she has two dogs and her first baby on the way this summer so she was going to ask around to her family well we live next door and when we met now Emmye we fell in love and that is it..

The lady at the vets office asures me that the guy is very nice and takes great care of all his corgi's... and I know her well enough to know that she would not say that if it was not true...

As far as Emmye personality it is great-- she loves the girls, we have taken her to other places and she is very good... so with the pervious own it just must of been him and M did not see eye to eye... I do not think there is any wrong doing or anything- I would like to get from him the blood lines they come from and ck that out...

I hope this helps--

Donna B

Hello Donna

I am only speaking for myself, but after reading your story, if Emmye were my dog, I would not let this guy breed her. If I understand your story right, a lady at the vets office took this dog from him because he did not get along with her. Then she could not keep the dog because she had too many dogs, so your sister -in-law got her and because she could not keep the dog, you ended up taking her.

If this guy takes such great care of his corgis, then he would not have let this dog basically change hands 3 more times and it sounds like you have never met him??

I would think he would have wanted to know where his Emmye was going and meet you personally if he was still going to plan on breeding her. There is no way in the world, if I were keeping Emmye, that I agree to accomodate him with his request. Did you verbally agree to do this for him? You would also be putting her health in danger through him by having her bred and what if something happened to her.

Also, is there any legal documentation or monies that were exhanged for her to show that you are now the legitimate owner, or does he still have the right to basically come and take her back?

I agree with Deb; have her spayed and give her a good loving home that she can depend on.

Welcome Donna, Emmye and family,

She is a lovely looking Corgi and I bet your daughters will really enjoy her.

I agree with Debbie and Linda, I would have her spayed sooner than later and let her fully adapt and enjoy her new home with you - keep her away from this former owner. Spaying as soon as you can will help reduce the risks of certain cancers as well.

Where in MI are you? We are in Toronto, ON.

Still a lot of for me. So she has no papers with her? Even IF you do get the papers how are you going to check them out? How will you know what the information there means? Do you know corgi bloodlines? Do you know what lines are producing what in terms of health issues?

So IF you are going to breed her this summer, now is the time to get busy with her health testing CERF exam, OFA radiographs, vWD status (all of these terms have been defined in other threads on breeding and what to look for in a breeder and some of these tests CANNOT be done by your or his regular vet) - you owe this to the people who will be getting her puppies to insure you are offering the healthiest puppies humanly possible.

Hi Donna! Welcome.

Hope you folks in Michigan are haiving a great winter!

Emmye is a beautiful little girl! Glad to hear she is finally getting some stability and love in her life. Sounds like your girls and husband have made her part of the family.

Can you imagiine poor Emmye being bounced around from house to house? I have to agree with Linda and Debbie too. Corgis are with us such a short time, give her the best life and healthiest life you can. And spaying may be the best way to go for Emmye.

I just observed a siutation where a male Corgi was rehomed from a hobby breeder because he was difficult. I know the woman who rescued him and have met her dogs. She told me this dog was wonderful, no behavior problems at all. Fortunately, she found him a wonderful home and he has never looked happier.

Lucky Emmye to have found you, your husband, and your girls.

Looking forward to watching her grow!

Susan, Tucker (Pem) and Lulu (Cardi)!

Don't worry about causing "debate" - that's what this forum is for. No one is meaning anything personal against you - they are expressing their opinions and their experience in the best interest of Emmye.

You are being smart, getting advice, options and educating yourself - she's in your care and you are the one who has to make any decision regarding her care and health.

The situation makes me nervous too, I am inclined to agree with the other posters.
But if that's what you decide to do, I will say a prayer that everything turns out ok for Emmye. Please let us know how she fares, or we will worry about her forever (we are a bunch of worry-warts here).
