I am a new member to the site. I have just purchased a beautiful female fluffy pembroke corgi and am waiting for it's arrival tomorrow evening. I live in the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia and the puppy is being flown in from the other side of Australia from Perth. We have been waiting to find a fluffy for 6 months. Although we have been searching for a fluffy cardigan, here they are all as rear as "hen's teeth". We are hoping to get a cardigan fluffy as well as we are still on all the breeder's lists.
Isn't she the most adorable fluffy corgi you have ever seen!!! Her name is "Lucy" |

hello Anna,
Lucy is so cute. I think I could go for one of those "fluffys" I know Australia is a large piece of land but I was wondering if you got any of the effects of that large storm that hit the Northern regions. I have a friend who is vacationing there and I worry a bit about him too. |

Hello Anna, Lucy looks absolutely beautiful, I am sure you cannot wait to meet her in person. We are so excited to find another Corgi person from our neck of the woods.
We live at Deception Bay, but Abby came from a Breeder (Pembrokes only) at Lake Cooroibah on the Sunshine Coast. One of Abbys sisters was a Fluffy Black Headed Tri. We very rarely see any Cardigan Corgis and there are only 3 Queensland Cardigan Breeders listed in the Canine Council Mag.Wave to us when you go past on your way to and from the Airport. We will be thinking of you. We are just getting a bit of blustery wind, high seas, and spasmodic rain down here near Brisbane. The Far North is a mess - buildings and crops - but according to reports so far there have been very few injuries to persons and no deaths. |

Hi you Aussies
I don't share your enthusiasm for fluffy Corgis at all. I just want the real thing in the kind of package that is as close to being the perfect Corgi. I want the Brad Pitt or Nicole Kidman of Corgis not the Dame Edna. There are members on Go Corgi who don't trust or like transporting Corgis by air let alone as far away as Perth is from Queensland. These people would rather go by car and pick up their newly acquired Corgi even if it means travelling 1000-miles plus. Do you find this a bit strange? Terrible damage and loss of property from the storm that hit Northern Queensland - but at least at this stage no loss of human life. The locals affected were well led in fleeing the storm well before it hit. |

Hey Michael, Perth is approx 4427 km from Brisbane which is 2750 miles - add the bit to the Sunshine Coast and you are looking at a round trip of about 6000 miles over vast distances of exceedingly hot and inhospitable roads, especially over the Great Australian Bight area, then there would be the problem of where to stay overnight with a brand new puppy. A tent or van would be the only option in a lot of places. I think the plane trip would be less traumatic for the puppy. I have three Schnauzer Breeder friends - they have each sent and received pups via plane from Perth, the pups sleep most of the way in air conditioned comfort and are quite happy and well on arrival.
We now have another cyclone -Wati - coming towards the Queensland Coast. This one is moving slowly and expected to intensify by Wednesday, but as yet they are not sure what path it will take. PS Dame Edna is more fun than Brad Pitt or Nicole Kidman. Last edited by KatC; 03-20-2006 at 11:53 PM. |

Thank you all for a warm welcome
Firstly thank you Jane, yes she is very special and I am now looking forward to getting our next fluffy cardigan which is on order. We have had such a wonderful response from breeders all over Australia, New Zealand and the USA regarding our search for a fluffy. Everybody tells us that they are actually the pick of the litter until the start to show little bits of fluff. Our previous one lived 15 years, she was loved by everybody who met her and when she passed over to Rainbow Bridge, I received cards, flowers, poems from even people who had only met her a few times.
The cyclonic conditions have passed the coast northern Queensland. My husband works in mining inland near Mt Isa and he said a large rain depression from the cyclone had passed over mid morning today. I suppose it is anyones guess what will transpire which the next cyclone which is off the coast in the same area. Thank God there are no fatalities. The saddness of losing your home, crops etc must be devestating to all those concerned. I believe that the crop loss could not be covered under any kind of insurance. Hi Kate C Thank you for your lovely message. Yes I know cardis are rear in this neck of the woods. I don't know if you know Betty Milneholme she was due to have a litter just before Christmas and they all died. She is in Melany. How old is your Abby she is a cutie. They are all cuties. Corgis whether Pems or Cardis are truelly the most handsome intelligent (heads of House) I mean pets!!!! I don't think I have ever met one that thought themselves as a pet!!! And never mind about head of the house try Head of State!!! Any household would be blessed to be able to have one in their home. Thank you for replying to Michael, you saved me replying because I probably wouldn't have been so kind. |

Abby is 15 months old. She was 7 months when I got her. Due to family commitments I have been unable to take her for any training until now, and am delighted that we shall be starting Basic Obedience lessons next week. I am hoping we will go on to Agility and later to Flyball. So far she has been doing a jolly good job in training me !!!
I think we should make Michael an Honorary Aussie .... He is A Great Resource for Qs&As ..... But also a Master at Being Controversial, Taking the Mickey , and getting the Discussions flowing .... He can come to a party at my place anytime .... Never a Dull Moment !!!

Just picked her up last night and it is as if she has lived with us forever. She kissed me all over. She slept all night and has eaten all her food. Few little wet accidents but we are getting the hang of it all. I just love her she is an angel that has been sent to me. I will certainly be putting more photos as they come to hand. We have a digital but every time the shutter takes the photo it takes that long that she has moved and I get a bad picture!!!!!

Welcome to the new Queenslander. Looking forward to seeing the photos of her, and glad she is settling in so well. You must be so happy. Yes, the shutter on the Digitals does take a long time. I try to have my shutter button pressed ready halfway , but this is no good if you are trying to get a quick pic. I then usually just point the camera in the general direction and keep clicking multi shots while Abby is on the move, especially if she is coming towards me, in the hope of getting a few good ones. I often get better shots this way and its like a Lucky Dip when downloading them.

Golly KatC, that's the nicest things anyone has said about me. Hell, I'll be over in a jiff. Don't buy the beer, I'll bring my own with me. And you can tell me about the Fluffy Corgi frenzy and how many medals Australia won at the Commonweaklth Games - but I bet you won't be able to name all the Aussie medalists as I will be able to with the New Zealand successes. I think we giot more fourth placings than your crowd did. BUt the venues for the Games have been outstanding and the locals have got right behind the Games and I believe that the numbers turning up for the sports have been better than even at the 2004 Olympics in Athens eg 80,000 at the track and field every day, 50,000 for the rugby sevens on both days.
I'm hell bent on organising test matches in agility between NZ and Australia and I think we have a pretty good chance of whipping your best agility partnerships. |

Hi Michael, Aussie beer too strong for you ? Or are you just being parochial. Yes, the Games have been good - bit embarassing the number of medals we have won - but then the Home Team always has a large number of competitors, and the crowd behind them. Agility Comps between Aus and NZ would be great, and I believe there are no quarantine probs between our countries. Now - Wellington is 1560 miles from Brisbane and 1380 miles from Sydney - Will you fly over ? or paddle your own canoe ?

Hi KatC
Aussie beer is a good hair restorer but our Tui, Speights and Export Gold are great ........ at drowning sorrows re Australia beating NZ in the mens basketball final for the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games only an hour or so before I wrote this message. It was a terrific contest though and went right to the wire. It's just amazing that NZ and Australia are ranked in the top four or six in the world. It was only a few years ago when NZ basketball was unrated .Then woosh. We seemed to have gone straight through to near the top of the tree and missing some of the processes to getting there. Even our women came home eighth at the Athens Olympics. NZ and Australia are two of six nations where rabies is not present and therefore don't require quarantine of their dogs. Wish the rest of the world was in that position so there would be no restrictions and international dog sports could become true world events. NZ holds the record for Trans Tasman canoeing, so it's quite feasible that I row from Wellington to Brisbane. Mind you the only travelling I have done internationally, is a trip to Sydney and two to Surfers via Brisbane - and I flew those. Corgis can fly - just look at them in agility and herding and frisbees - maybe I'll hitch a ride on Taylor's back next time I visit Aus. |
