Question Fussy Paws & Toes!

I just had Molsen & Miller at the groomers to have their nails trimed. Miller does not like it, but he doesn't fuss ( he is actually not fussy about anything). But when molsen got up there he starts growling and snapping. We have him muzzled or someone might get hurt. Is this a corgi trait or is there a way to stop this behavior? I would like to be able to take him and not be so stressed out or have him stressed out.

The only solution I have is a long program of desensitization, in small increments. Not a fast or easy solution, but will work eventually!

I tend to tell my Corgis "hold my hand!". Then I hold their paws in my hand for awhile. At first Tucker didn't like it, would pull his paw back, but most of the time he lets me hold his paw, play with his toe nails, rub his pads, etc.

Lulu never seemed to mind me holding her paw.

Do I cut their nails? No!!!! Thye are wiggly, don't growl or bark, but wiggle. I'm terrified I'll hurt them. So my puppy sitter clips their nails regularly.

Tucker of course, wears his front nails down regularly but not the hind nails.

My Corgi, Chloe absolutely hates to have her paws touched. I've always tried to work with her in this way by touching, holding gently and rubbing her paws during snuggle time. She also will growl and snap at me or whoever is doing the trimming. This has also been a challenge for me. I've been thinking about trying a Dremmel (sp) on her.

It's a corgi trait to not like having their feet messed with. It is not a corgi trait to growl or snap. Some will do that, and I see nothing wrong with muzzling one that does. I have a rescue here that I'm fostering and I muzzle him because he does that.

Some of them can be desentizied to an extent and some will never want their nails trimmed and always fight.

Thanks for all the advice. I will try working on holding Molsen's paws and see if in time it works. Maybe I should start with a muzzle on to protect my hands or give the job to my husband! Thanks you so much!
