Introducing myself

Hi - got referred here by corgimum with her Montrose and Dylan.

I live in the DC metro area (for now - native New Jerseyan). I have a soon to be 5 year old PWC, Boomer and a just-turned 7 Jack Russell (Sparkie).

Boomer is currently working through a lot of stuff - she was diagnosed with fibrotic myopathy, a degenerative muscle disease normally found only in German Shepherds. This put an end to a promising agility career - this gal earned a Q and made open time in her first jumpers run in NADAC. Pretty good - but all the more impressive when you know that she hadn't even taken a single agility class before that day! She'd tagged along to the practice field while I trained my JRT and fooled around a little bit, that was it. She earned 1/2 her novice titles in NADAC and all her level 1 CPE titles before we had to stop. I'm hoping more rally (we have our APDT level 1 basic title) and perhaps tracking might still be in her future.

Behaviorally, we are working on accepting touch (especially around the collar - she is very snappy, might even bite me, so that's my husband's job since he's her favorite), stopping resource guarding, and getting along with Sparkie. We've had her for two years - she's a rescue, originally from a pet store via a first family - but these problems cropped up in the past six months when her health issues arose and we moved out of state, disrupting her routine. Any advice welcome! We are working with a good trainer and hopefully will get things turned around, eventually.

So that's us. Looks like a lovely place here!

Hello Boomer, Sparkie and Mom,

Glad that Barbara sent you over here.

I am Linda and I have a 15 month old Pem named Cody. I previously had a female Corgi that I adopted from a Humane Society when she was about 2 and I had her for almost 12 years.

Would love to see some pictures if you get a chance to post some.

Welcome to Go Corgi Glad Barbara herded you over here!

My Girls are Emma age 7 and Chloe is one.

Sorry to hear Boomer is ill. Could the fibrotic myopathy be making her neck muscles hurt causing her not to want touched there? Please keep us posted on her progress.

Welcome Boomer, Sparky and mom! I don't know much about this condition, but I will do a little googling ( as is normal for me ) to learn a bit about it. I am sorry you are going through all this with poor Boomer glad you were able to give her a good home though. It really too bad about the agility , sounds like she really is a natural, but it sounds like there are other things you can do with this smart girl.
I am mom to Dillon, who is an almost 21 month old red and white pem and this saturday will be adopting his uncle, Gus, who is a 28 month old red and white pem... Welcome to go corgi and i would love to see photos of Boomer and Sparky when you have a chance to post them...
