Yes, Hello Dave. We sort of hijacked your post.
(Linda--I reread my post and want to clarify and reiterate that, in my humble opinion, I see you (and several others here) as an expert. The you in my post that reads "Are you an expert..." was a universal you met for all of us here--NOT an individual you. And really meaning that there are many different aspects to being an expert in regards to our Corgis which was to imply an inclusiveness of being called an expert. One expert might excel in one or several areas of dogs/Corgis and another expert might excel in different areas with both being able to call themselves experts. (well, that run-on sentence is probably clear as mud). I, however, quite clearly label myself as a newbie. Hoping you have a great day! I enjoy and respect all the information in your posts.) Dave--Yes, we crate several days/week. We always go on a 20-30 minute walk when we get home either outside or on the treadmill depending on the weather. One cute thing, Buddy likes to walk together with me or the kids on the treadmill. When Buddy was a puppy, we were lucky enough to have neighbors who were home schooled who gladly came in to give him his noon meal and walk and play with him. We did this till Buddy was about 10 months when they decided to return to private school. Last edited by fido; 03-01-2007 at 08:55 AM. |

The people I thought were arguing were Peggy and Michael - the parts about you're not an expert, your arguements are flawed, etc.
Several of us felt the comments were more personal than opinion. I want to be like Liam - I'm friends with everyone and I don't take it differing opinions personally. I don't mind different beliefs, I just don't want to read about who's wrong, who's right. Let the reader decide. |

Sorry, didn't mean to disappear. I went on vacation and disappeared there for a while.
Rubyupdate: She's still adorable and got a ton of playtime today with another grad student's puppy. Me and the owner talked about the Glory of Corgi. But it was really the first chance Ruby's had to really play with another dog off leash for a long time. It's interesting to see what everyone does with crating. I usually don't crate the Ruble. I find she tends to stay in her crate without me closing her in it. But I think she's quite unique - she came to me completely leashtrained and cratetrained and the calmest dog I've met. I know I'd love to be able to stay at home all day and hang with the rubycube, but sometimes I can't. But I do wonder what people who work do if they get a puppy. How do you work that, not on a permanent basis but just for the first few days or weeks of puppyhood. |

When we first got Zia (in September), she was crated at night and during the day. We started her out sleeping with us, but she started peeing in the bed. After a month or so, she started sleeping with us again. During the day we would crate her. I would put her in the crate at 7:30 a.m., come home and let her out from 11:00 - 11:30, crate her again until hubby or I came home from work, usually between 2:30 and 3:30. During my Christmas break she finally learned how to use the doggie door. She hasn't been crated since. It is funny, she will not go into her crate now, but she will get in Zip's.

Welcome Dave & Ruby. Since you have already gotten many responses, I'll just leave it at that! Hope to see some pics of Ruby soon . . .
