Hi

Hi, I am from about an hour north of Charlotte, NC and have developed an interest in Corgis. I would like to know if there are breeders in the area that may have companion puppies. I am in the process of convincing my DH and cats that it would be a good idea to have a puppy. I think it would be good if he could spend some time with some of the dogs in the breed. We spent time over the weekend with one next door to my parents. Such a sweet dog!! Also is there a general $ range for a companion pet?

Thanks, now off to check the gallery.

There will be a dog show in Charlotte, NC the weekend of April 8th & 9th. The entry for both breeds of corgis will be good sized. That would give you an opportunity to see a number of dogs, spend some time with them and have an opportunity to meet some breeders. Wait until after the dogs have been shown as the exhibitors are usually more relaxed and will have more time to talk with you. The Pembroke folks will be a bit pressed for time as the regional PWC club will be having a meeting an hour after the Pems show on Saturday.

Price was for a companion puppy, somewhere in the $600 - $800 ballpark most likely from a breeder who breeds to the standard and does the needed health testing and screenings. And yes there are some very good reputable and responsible breeders in the immediate Charlotte area.

Debbie's pricing for a non-show standard Pem puppy is interesting. Her US$600-$800 is far more than is the case in NZ. For some peculiar reason, Corgis - both Cardis and Pems are among the less expensive pure breeds to buy here.
Our pricing is around US$400-$600 for a show standard Corgi puppy and US$150-$250 for a "pet' pup.

Where exactly will this dog show be held? Will there still be people there on Sunday, ie what is the times for each day?

Thanks,

It will be held at the Piedmont Kennel Club's showgrounds which are near Carowinds. Show will start roughly around 8-8:30 AM and go until 4-5:00 PM until Best In Show both Saturday and Sunday. Ring times should be up by the end of this week, and I'll let you know whenever they are posted. Now this weekend in Hickory, NC there is an UKC all-breed show - I'm not sure where or if there will be any corgis entered. UKC does things a bit differently and I'm not really sure of any way to know beforehand exactly what breeds will be entered.

To get to the Charlotte shows - off I-77 take the Carowinds Blvd exit. Go pass Carowinds to York Rd (NC-49); turn left. Proceed to Choate Circle and turn left on to Choate Circle and follow the dog show signs.

On Saturday the times are:

16 Cardigans in ring 10 at 11:00 AM
18 Pembrokes in ring 9 at 1:00 PM

On Sunday the times are:
19 Cardigans in ring 10 at 9:45 AM
22 Pembrokes in ring 10 at 8:00 AM

As soon as I found out where the UKC show is I'll let you know.
