Hi guys,
Really glad I managed to locate a dedicated Corgi forum. Looking forward to learning from all, as I raise my puppy - Paige. I got Paige from a local pet store, and she's a PWC, from Australia. The thing I realised is, she's quite small sized for a 4-month old puppy compared to many other puppies of the same age I've seen on this site. Opinion anyone? Daryl, from Singapore |

Welcome Daryl
Glad you found GoCorgi. Annie was exactly 15 lbs (6.8 kgs) at 4 months but she did end up oversize for a Pem. Joey was 15 lbs at 5 months when he came to us and as an adult is correct for the standard. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will step in and advise puppy growth ranges. Paige is a cutie! What a darling little girl Paige is! I love the "action" photo of her tugging on the toy! ...ahhh, puppy breath, big paws, fuzzy ears...
Glad you found your way to gocorgi - hope you will find good information and nice folks here! |

Daryl,
At what age did you get Paige? Could it be that she was kept on the small side to make her look younger than she was? Sometimes I have heard that Pet Shops do that to have the puppies appear "puppyish". Welcome to Gocorgi! Jane |

I wonder, too, if it has something to do with her pet store lines. At least here in the US, puppies available at pet stores aren't always the most carefully bred and can be quite different from dogs bred by show/hobby breeders...I don't know much about breeding dogs, but size could be one of these differences. More often, unfortunately, health problems and serious genetic defects are common in pet store puppies, and so prospective puppy owners are discouraged from getting their puppy there. I'm getting the impression that things might be a little different (maybe better? I hope so!) down under... so if your puppy is happy and healthy, all the better for you! She sure is adorable. Let's see more pictures! (I need the fix... as my puppy still isn't born yet
![]() If anyone from the other side of the world can comment on the differences between getting a dog in Australia New Zealand vs. here in the us, I'd appreciate it! Again, it seems like it's more acceptable out there to get a dog from a pet store or "backyard breeder" than it is here. Many people who aren't show breeders here in the US are more concerned about selling puppies for money than for producing beautiful, healthy, quality dogs that "better the breed," and therefore pay very little attention to the science of breeding good dogs.

Paige looks a real cutey and a true Welsh-Aussie. I wouldn't be at all concerned about her size until she becomes an overweight junior/adult. She looks just adorable with typically big ears at her stage of life, and she has that curiousity and cheeky (impish) look which is prevalent in Pems. I don't suppose your pet shop provided you with pedigree papers and breeder details. Go Corgi has built up quite a few members from Singapore but I don't think any have been active on our site in recent weeks.

A big hello to TandemGal, Bayoucorgi, LoveMyCorgi, Jane, Margo, Debbie, Heather and Michael! It's great to be in a community like this, despite the geographical distance, we can still come together and have this common interest and love for our dearest corgis.
To Jane, well I got Paige when she was about 3 months old, and have had her at home for about a month now, making her 4months old at this very moment. I'll be getting her pedigree papers in couple of weeks time, delivered by the pet shop. But seriously, I don't know how trustworthy these pedigree papers are. As in, are they regulated? Who's to control and certify that whatever is written on these papers are true? I felt that Paige is a little small 'cos I was checking out one of the member's corgi (maximus), and he looks really strong and stout for a puppy corgi. The pet shop's recommendation was to keep her on 2 meals a day, but I've just increased it to 3 meals. Paige weighs about 5.5lbs now.

Hey guys,
I suspect Paige is starting to shed her furcoat. From some reading, I gathered that corgis shed about twice a year. She's 4 months old now. I have about 3 questions, which I'm quite clueless about and I would really really appreciate all your help and expertise! ![]() (1) At which months do corgis usually shed? How long does it take per shedding? And do I have to do anything, other than the usual brushing with the slicker brush? (2) Is it true that for puppies, to house train them, we shouldn't touch them or show them too much affection initially? If I hadn't done that is there an alternative now? (3) I keep Paige in a playpen, and put a smaller tray lined with newspapers for her to pee and poo on. I realised that everytime I'm home Paige plays the good girl, and pees and poos on the tray given to her. But when I'm out at work, that's when she starts peeing all over the floor, inside the playpen. Any recommendations? Thank you so much! |

Oh good heavens! Great things come in small packages!
Paige is adorable. Tucker, my 2 year old Pem is small for a corgi. He weighs in around 24 lbs these days. Welcome to GoCorgi! Susan

My first puppy class w/ Tucker assigned us a short book to read. I can't remember the author but when I read this I said no way: Something to the effect that when the pup is young, don't give it too much attention. yes, train it, praise it for things like pottying outside, drop it, leave it, etc. I of course paid truck loads of attention to my pup and to this day I truly wonder if verbal praise means little to them because I raised them with a lot of verbal reinforcement and tons of attention. ?????
