Proud new mommy..
Hi. My name is Linda, and I'm a proud new mommy of an almost 9 week old male Corgi named Rocko. I've had him for almost 2 weeks now, and things are going great!! He's a ball of energy most times, and then there's the quiet times where he's sleeping so soundly that it makes me tear up lol There are however lots and lots of questions that I seem to be coming up with and now have found somewhere to turn with people who know how Corgis are. Here is a photo of him. BTW, I love the smilies!!

Linda - Rocko is a real cutie. You must be so proud of him - and yourself for choosing such an adorable little bundle of fun and games.
Start him on come, sit and stay - you can teach him these things from your living room/lounge. House training (as in toileting) us always challenging - just rememeber to anticipate when he should be conducted outside. Corgis are surprisingly clever learners. I am really looking forward to his ears standing up. I was told it could take till he's 16 weeks, so I may have a while. I do know that they are starting to turn and protrude more from the side of his head, so maybe that's a sign. The potty training thing isn't going as bad as I had anticipated. We just take him out as soon as he wakes and he's starting to give signs when he needs out (barking at us and lately getting a little violent with biting our hands). We keep him crated unless we are physically with him or outside playing. He seems to be sleeping a lot more the last few days, and I'm thinking it's because he's hit a growth spurt. We go to the vet for his 9 week shots this weekend so I'll make sure all is OK then. I'm sure you'll be hearing alot more from me in the coming weeks, seeing as I've never owned a Corgi before and have lots of questions.

At 16 weeks, your puppy will start teething. During the teething time ears can go up and down. If they don't stay down for more than 24 hours I don't worry. If over 24 hours I tape the ear. Quote:

You seem to have the toilet thing under control. A lot of Corgis give out signals and it needs an intelligent person to recognise them.
Yes, the ears erect - by 12 weeks both should be up or as near to it but I wouldn't start a taping routine until 14 weeks and a certainty that one or both are not fully 'engaged.' |
