Hi, my name is Carlos
Hi everybody, before everything I must tell you how happy I am for having found this forum…
Thank you Michael, for your kind words My name is Carlos, Carlos Mocho. I am Portuguese, righting from Lisbon. Even if I still consider myself as a beginner with those funny dogs call Corgi, I own five Pembroke, two males and tree females. Here in Portugal, if not with the help of the movie “the Queen”, almost nobody will now this wonderful breed. (In fact I believe that beyond my dogs there are only two other Pembroke in Portugal, and maybe two or three in Spain). Thanks God, we have actually this amazing tool call Internet, that alow us to communicate and share experiences with persons all around the world! I was lucky to know two excellent and experienced breeders who had try to teach me a bit about the breed (one from Italy and other from New Zealand). I’m breeding English Cocker for almost twenty ears, and live has brought me to the Pembroke Corgi… I was attached with this new passion and as you can easily imagine I don’t pretend to cure me of this illness. |

Welcome Carlos,
We have a fluffy pembroke named Colby and he is just 10 months old. We are new to the breed but also are so happy we found it. I had a beagle growing up and my boyfriend always had big dogs but our little guy is the best. Do you have any pictures of your dogs to share?? We'd love to see them! Again, welcome!! Julie, Jamie and Colby Salem, NH USA

Hi Julie, Jamie and Colby,
thank you for welcome me. I have some pictures but for the moment I don’t know how to create my own gallery. I’ve seen Colby’s gallery and I find him lovely, with a tender Corgi expression (I can see he sometimes smile… -). Thank you again. |

Hello again...
maybe I found a way of presenting my family. The red and white girl is Alice, and the young boy is Gucci. I understand that is not the best way of presentation, but is the best I can do for now. |

Carlos Mocho - what a ring that name has. Beats the Browns, Jones and the Smiths (my wife was a Smith). With five Corgis - you are the King of Portugal -never mind the British Queen - but I am pleased that yet another movie has helped to promote and popularise the Corgi The pics you have sent show very fine and beautiful Pems. I am havng a six year old Pem named Alice stay with me for two weeks later this month.
How did you first come by a Corgi - I take it you would have imported perhaps a pair from some other country. Britain? Do you exhibit your Corgis at (conformation) shows? How do city and town authorities treat well bred, well behaved dogs in Portugal - are you allowed to take a dog into a restaurant, cafe, shop, shopping centre; on a beach, in a ordinary park etc. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 08-02-2007 at 09:20 PM. |

Hi Michael, so many questions in just one message… LOL
I will try to answer the best my English allow it… Carlos Mocho is my real name, so my profile name is C Mocho (obviously we understand Mocho is my family name and it means “owl” -) With five Corgis in deed, but I’m not the Portuguese King, we are two, anyhow I believe I am republican… Thank you for loving the pics and dogs, I also like them, even if we are never completely please I believe they showed Alice and Gucci in a nice way. My Alice will be 3 years old in September and she is from my first home breed litter, she had give me a lot of joys and I believe she also love me a lot (I hope). Gucci is about one year old, and I believe he is a very promising pup. The way I come to Corgis is such a long story that I should have somebody’s help to put it on English language… But we can say they are lovely enough to catch everyone… I’ve started with a bitch, kindles offer from some friends (that probably know me better then myself)… The first male was a great friend’s pet, now with me because of serious heath problems… but he worked perfectly with that first bitch! Both coming from France with “Salvenic” (GB) close blood… So, can you imagine the tail? Indeed I show my Corgis, has I’ve said I breed dogs for several years, and showing is my “escapade”… Obviously they are doing well in ring and I am so proud, even if I understand I’ve got a lot of work to do with this breed... Concerning dogs rules in Portugal, they are officially the same as in every Europe Community, but maybe with some conformities according with hour specific culture: Dogs are allowed in every park, officially with leads but we often can see then playing without if they are not disturbing… Not allowed in Restaurants, neither in Coffee Bars, but we stay in the yard and enjoy ourselves… In shopping centres we are suppose not to entry, but frequently there are pet shops, so we must entry if we have not a big size dog that we can’t support in our harms… On beach, in summer, we are only allowed out of the official beaches… We have a lot of beach coast, some (the most) have a lot of people, some have surveillance, but we have so many sand that we can find a lot of places we can go and were nobody can disturb our dogs. Outside towns and tourist places, we can do the way we want if we have a well-behaved and obedient dog and we respect other people. I confess it was not so easy to answer all the questions but I hope you approve my efforts. Last edited by C Mocho; 08-02-2007 at 10:16 PM. |

Carlos,
I think you did a fabulous job of answering Michael's questions. I also want to comment on how beautiful your two photos are!! Your corgis look very happy!! I have never traveled to Portugal but I did know of someone from there when I used to have a different job. He was a pilot and when he would come to the United States and visit he always had wonderful stories to tell of your country and i have seen some beautiful pictures too. It is late here in the States but I am not able to sleep so I turn to my trusty internet which is likely to keep me awake even longer ![]() I hope you have a nice night or day, i dont know what time it is there in portugal....but until next time....

Hi and welcome, Carlos! Beautiful looking dogs (and the presentation was fine!).
We have Rosie, a 7 year old female - she is our second corgi and we have had her from eight weeks of age. She was our first puppy, although we had had a number of adult dogs, mainly from adoptions, and she taught us such a lot. My man and I are hoping to be living in our ten metre bus soon and will travel around New Zealand in it. Rosie will come too. |

Thanks Colbycorgi, hope you did sleep well...
In fact Portugal is a nice place to visit. Weather is fine, people are kind, food is good, and it isn’t too expensive… Even if it is small it can change a lot from north to south and obviously, having 850 years of history, we can show some very interesting places to observe… The time in Lisbon is exactly the same as in London -) Hi Clogs, thank you for your kind welcome, I’ve seen Rosie picks, she looks lovely with that duck and the size matter’s pick is also wonderful. Living in a green big bus is a very new concept to me, but it looks very interesting, mostly if you are living in such lovely country as New Zealand. (No, I never went to New Zealand, we are exactly in opposite sides of our planet, but I know is one of the most beautiful landscapes in the whole world). I’ve forgot to tell you, Gucci (the young tricolor) came from Italy. |

Ciao Carlos,
T's been a long time since we talked by internet (a wonderful invention) in the italian forum... the world is so small when you have a pc, that makes travelling so immediate and comfortable!!! now I'm in New Zealand and I'm discussing with intelligent and interesting people who share the same love and passion for this wonderful breed!! I've fallen inlove with your GUCCI, he looks so beautiful in that foto in that position on the beach!!. I love him. SMACK...this is for your little MAN!!!!

Carlos - I'm a republican too but I'll live with the British Queen (who is still also considered officially the Queen of New Zealand though we are an absolute independent nation from Britain) while she has the Corgis.
Your English is fine and needs very little intensive thinking on my part. I have a member of the Wellington Welsh Corgi Walking Club whose 18 month old male Pem Corgi has gone to Auckland to be made up as a a show champion (it takes 8 show successes - best of breed/best dog of breed) by the breeder, and when the Corgi returns, the owner will get me to handle his Corgi for any further show successes. Several European countries at the very least, are very much in favour of dogs and make all sorts of allowances for them. Your country seems much like New Zealand though after the Corgi walk today, the very nice cafe we went to, urged club members to bring their Corgis in as well. That is a bit unusual. Hi guys, sorry for not answer sooner but I was too busy those days…
Hi Marisa, I also love Romel. His expression seems so sweet… Thank you Heather L, for your words. Hi Michael, yes in deed, we (the Corgi lovers) have a lot to thank to the Queen. God bless her! Not all the European countries are much “in favour” of dogs, in fact, the much they make new legislation, the less in favour they are. I’m too old to be anarchist but with a bit less rules and a bit more of good sense and respect for the others we could be much happier… But is the way our global planet is going for now… Anyhow, I’m not sure if I can give you a impartial lecture of the way things are going in Portugal because I’ve surpassed the common number of pets at home. Thank god we don’t have alligators in here, because I’m the kind of guy that could stop using the pool for allowing a visitor to install comfortably. |

Hi Carlos
You're right - any changes in the way dogs are treated and regarded by the authorities of various countries are usually negative to the freedom of dogs. But in some of the European countries you can still take your dogs on public transport, they can still go into shops, cafes, shopping centres, shopping malls, onto beaches etc. If you think New Zealand has alligators or crocodiles, you are mixing us up with Australia. NZ doesn't really have any animal or insect or bird that will much harm a Corgi. The only things that harm Corgis here are fast cars and big savage dogs. Are scorpions dangerous to dogs in Portugal? The world needs another Noah and his family and a large boat. I hope they take boy and girl 'unfixed' Corgis on board when the floods come. |

LOL
That’s ok Michael, I do know that New Zealand is not Australia. I have just use alligator has an example but I can change it with a Black Swan if you prefer… Fortunately for Gucci, that can really enjoy a see bath, we have send all the Portuguese Man of War (Blue Bottle Jellyfish) for your coasts. LOL Scorpions are scorpions all over the world, anyhow those we have in Portugal are not too dangerous, but they can be very painful. I never ear about a dog been bitten by a scorpion, but there are probably some victims somewhere. The two little animal ho are really a problem for dogs (even if the most of the people never eared about) is the "pine processionary caterpillar" (Thaumetopoea pityocampa), ho fortunately happen to be is a seasonal problem, and the “sand fly” (Lutzomyia vexator) ho brought us (to all Mediterranean countries) a disease call “canine leishmania” with no cure, no vaccination program and that if infected it will kill our dog sooner or latter |
