Im not sure how much the state has adopted it but the people in the state know it well and sing it loud. Did you know that the song was actually written about Virginia not West Virginia. Turns out that Virginia doesnt sound as good as West Virginia.

New Zealand should have ended with another name. The Netherlands explorer, Abel Tasman originally named it completely differently and even the "Zealand" is not the usual way you would spell "Zeland" - which is an area in the Netherlands. However the given name of New Zealand by the Maori some 1000 years ago is Aotearoa which means "land of the long white cloud" - how very true. By the way it is now believed that NZ was discovered by other than Maori (Polynesians) many centuries before the first of the 12 great canoes arrived in NZ. The Maori are descended from the native people of what is now Taiwan. I hope you found this of interest, Mr West Virginia.
