Charlie says "Howdy"
Hi everyone!
This is my new baby Charlie. He just turned 12 weeks old yesterday. He came from a ranch in Texas on Sept. 1, and was one of 8 littermates. I had a choice of 4 of the pups as a "pet" dog (at a lower price than some of the other pups). His parents came trotting down the ranch road to greet me when I arrived. They were so sweet! I got out of my car and they both sat down to be petted. No barking...great temperament. Charlie's dad is a black-headed tri and his mom is a sable with white markings. As you can see, Charlie got his mom's looks. I had seen better looking puppies (in terms of breed conformation), but since I was just wanting a good companion Corgi, not a "beauty-show" dog, I took Charlie home. His sweet-tempered parents had a lot to do with my choice. You can see that he has a "butterfly" nose which I know is a no-no, but maybe the leather will turn. If not, we'll just have to stock up on the sunscreen. I lost my first dog in June. He was a canine good citizen rottweiler who lived to be almost 10 years. With that loss, I got very lonely and started researching breeds. Not wanting another 100 lb dog, among other reasons, I found the Corgi breed just about a perfect match for my current lifestyle. I spent lots of time researching Corgis, including about a week reading hundreds of posts here on GoCorgi. Looking forward to getting to know you all. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions! I was wanting to attach some photos, but can't get the link to work ("error on page" message). I'll try in another post to get photos up. |

Peanut and Charlie must have been born only days apart- he’s officially 12 weeks tomorrow (his bday was 6/21/07).
I search high and low for a breeder near by so I can scope out the parent dogs. Once we got there, we met both parents. The mom was about 25 lbs and the dad ~30lbs, both sable and white. A majority of the liter was tri color predominantly black and only 3 that were dark sable and white colored. I’m so glad we were able to meet the parents of Peanut, it gave me peace of mind knowing where he’s coming from! |

Meeting Parents
Peanut is a couple pounds heavier the Charlie, even two days younger. Charlie's dad is 28 lbs and fairly stout. His mom looked thin, but the breeder said that was due to birthing the litter and that she should be about 23 lbs.
It was nice to see the parents. Charlie's litter had some flaws like Charlie's butterfly nose (one pup looked like he would have blue eyes?), but the parents were such pretty (within conformation standard) and great tempered dogs that I decided to get Charlie even with his "improper" nose. I still wonder why he is such a lightweight though! |
