Hello from CA
Hi everyone!
I wanted to introduce myself along with my corgi, Peanut. My name is Sarah and I’m from CA (bay area). Peanut is 12 weeks old, male, and a tri colored (mainly black). He’s my first puppy and, boy, he sure is a handful! So far, he’s been able to “sit” “down” recognize his name, and also play fetch. However, we are still working on housebreaking I look forward using the forum to help with Peanut’s puppyhood and adulthood! I browsed around the site and everyone seems very friendly and helpful! Thanks -sarah |

Hi Sarah & Peanut
Hi Sarah!
Peanut sure is a cutie! You and I both have 12-week olds. Charlie has also learned sit and down, as well as wait, but has absolutely no interest in fetch. He likes to go chase a toy and put it in a pile of toys...guess he's a neatnik! Trying to teach him fetch. Good thing I've had zero potty-training accidents (so far). Peanut looks little. I think Charlie may be small too, just judging from other posters here. Charlie weighs 7 lbs at 12 weeks. How much does Peanut weigh? Welcome! Chris |

Hi Charlie!
When we brought Peanut to the vet at 8wks, he was over 4lbs. We recently weighted him at home (not sure how accurate out method is: 1st I weight myself, and then I weight myself and Peanut, and finally subtract the two numbers to get Peanuts weight) and he’s over 9 lbs! He’s a little cub-ster, but TONS of energy to burn. He likes to chase the cat around, but unfortunately our cat isn’t the most social one out there. Pansy, our cat, is approaching 11 human years, so his romping-energy days are over. I bought mini tennis balls for Peanut at Petsmart. I make sure Peanuts attention is on the ball before I give it a little toss. Usually he’ll run towards the ball and come back with ball-in-mouth. I tried to reward Peanut for brining it back, but once I pull out the treat, his attention to the ball and fetch is gone. We are struggling with potty training. Initially Peanut was literally watering the carpet and laying droppings everywhere! Now once we take him outside he’ll eliminate, but still, there a chance of a mistake. “Good boy” to Charlie for acing housebreaking! I cant wait to see a pic of Charlie! -saraj |

Kitties and new puppy
My cat Einstein knows exactly how your kitty Pansy feels! Einstein is 13 1/2 years old and I haven't seen too much of him since Charlie came home. He's hiding out in another room. On the other hand, my two four-year old brother kitties, Cosine and Tangent, are adjusting better. Tangent used to like to "play" (tease, temp, and terrorize) with my first dog, a 96 pound rottweiler. Now I'm having to scold Tangent for stalking and swatting at puppy Charlie. Bad kittie! Charlie is behaving quite gentlemanly toward the cats.
I think our housetraining "luck" is mostly from keeping Charlie in a training kennel next to me most of the time while "the crew" of kitties get used to him. We go outside at least every two hours to "potty in the grass". He's only out loose in the house for supervised playtimes, and naps on my lap. Good Boy to Peanut for bringing the tennis ball to you. I bought some of those small yellow tennis balls too. Charlie will chase them (and other toys), but instead of bringing them to me, he carries them away and hoards them in a pile. I think now that he's out of the big puppy litter, he's enjoying playing "All mine, no sharing" with his toys. |
