Most of us know how you feel, but it is the bestest thing we can do for our dogs is keep them from getting overweight, or at least don't give in to their begging glares all the time.
I don't think Duchess is obese but we both have to try harder. |

If your Corgi is excess to the ideal weight - don't feed two cups of anything per day- try no more than three quarters of a cup daily until goal weight is reached.
Corgis are just like people if overweight - less food, less fatty food, more exercise. Start at the premise that starving a Corgi will lose weight just like starving a human will lose weight - and take it from there. |

welcome!!
i think i'm the only person on earth who has a corgi who isn't having probs iwth over eating. I had to get some wet food to mix in to get him to gain some weight b/c we're so active he was getting skinny. 23.4 lbs at the moment! i'm telling ya.. rollerblading 4 miles a day for him works wonders

I'm with you Hemi. Charlie gets distracted and forgets he's eating. He's high on prey drive, so anything that moves makes him wander away from his food bowl and go for a chase.
He's only broken 9 pounds at 15 weeks, and I keep adding low-fat cottage cheese or small bits of meat to his kibble to keep him more interested in eating. |

If a Corgi is that easily distracted away from his/her food bowl, perhaps the food is not quite what he/she would wish. Taylor, Alice, Taffy - all the Corgis I have had at home - would not leave food in their bowl during a severe eathquake, a 100 mile an hour hurricane and a tsunami.

I'm still working on finding a food that Charlie will like. I didn't realize he was small for his age when I got him until reading posts here. I slowly switched him from the breeder's food to Solid Gold puppy. He not interested in it unless I add "yummies" like cottage cheese.
Last night we were invited over to the neighbor's house and Charlie went after their dogs' food! They feed Pedigree, which is cheap (compared to the premium brands I've bought for him), but I bought a bag of the puppy Pedigree today and he seems to like it. So we're transitioning again... |
