Hey there! - 11-21-2007, 10:46 AM

Hi everyone! I'm not a corgi owner, but my brother and SIL just rescued one. They look to me for dog info as I've done a lot of reading and have 3 rescued boxers. I want to help them do the best they can for this little gal they rescued from a byb breeder situation. They just got her last Sunday. I need LOTS of advise and I'll be reading everything I can here. I belong to a boxer forum that has given me tons and tons of valuable info and wonderful friendships.

Welcome Corky's aunt!!!! Give my thanks to your brother and SIL for rescuing Corky from a BYB. Now he'll know what a loving home is like. You'll get TONS of info on corgi's here. From what to feed, behavior problems, health problems and our personality (which I might add, are they EVER in for a treat, LOL)

Just pick out anything in the forums and read away, or send a message here if you or they have a question. There are quite a few of breeders here that can answer just about any question you have. If not, they'll find it for you.

In what way did they "rescue" Corky? Was the byb threatening to take her to the pound?

They answered an ad in a newspaper I believe. Corky is doing really well! She is adjusting to her new home and becoming more outgoing. She is learning to play a little bit - with a stuffy. She has no clue about tennis balls or other toys and dislikes anything with a squeaker. She and their resident cat are learning to co-exist pretty well now too. So far, so good! And thanks for all the great info here. I've been reading a lot and funneling what I'm learning to my SIL.

In other words, or more accurately, they bought her from an ad in a newspaper.

A rescue dog is one that through no fault of its own for whatever reason finds itself in need of a new home. Being a rescue chair for a Pembroke Club and a regional coordinator for Cardigan rescue, I am a little sensitive about the loose and cavalier use of the rescue term.

How old is Corky? There are some dogs that just don't care for squeaky toys or playing ball. First and foremost they need to give her time. It would also be a good idea for them to be a little more proactive and perhaps join us here themselves. Sometimes things might get lost in translation.

Very true. I have dogs that won't play ball. I even had a Golden Retriever (my very first dog) that wouldn't fetch anything. Does she like to chew on things? Maybe she prefers stuffed toys? Or tug toys?

Sorry. but it is very funny that a person who answered an advert for a Corgi for sale, would term the whole exercise as a 'rescue.' I suppose it is a rescie in a way. Getting Taylor was a rescue because he wouldn't have had the wonderful and almost famous life he is having with someone else.

I agree his life wouldn't have been the same but he was not rescued. You bought him from a breeder.

You insult a reputable breeder when you say you rescued a dog you bought from them.
