Hi, my name is... - 11-24-2007, 11:24 AM

Hi, my name's Jamie. I'm a 17 year old from Florida and I've just gotten my first corgi, a Pembroke, a week ago today. I've been in love with the breed for a long time but never had one--my parents have always had mini dachshunds and chihuahuas in the house and a corgi was "just too big." I finally got one for Christmas this year, to keep me company when I go to college next year!

His name is Copper and he's a three-month old red-and-white boy. We're not sure how his color will turn out as he gets older--he's got black-tipped hairs on his back, but the breeder told us that several of her puppies have been like that and turned much more red like their (red&white) father as they lost their puppy coat, so who knows! Copper is so smart--he's already got 'sit' down pat and he's working on leash training.

My mother is a Director of Nursing at a nursing home here in town, and Copper has been in to visit the residents already. If his temperment remains as calm as it is now, I hope to train Copper to be a therapy dog as he gets older.

Well I've really rambled enough now. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and I'm looking forward to sharing about the pup!

WAIT- Dorms allow dogs now? Elaborate, please!

Anyway, I'm glad that you got a puppy, he sounds like a real charm. Keep us updated!

Someday, I'll be with you, dear corgi!

Unfortunately, no--I will either be in my own apartment or sharing a condo with my best friend.

welcome Jamie and Copper - 12-01-2007, 08:28 AM

Hi and welcome, we're new too: sue and Pickett who's 11yo, a red& white male, born in Maine and reared in western Virginia. He's our first and I can't see ever being without a corgi (attach wiggling corgi here).
Sometimes when we're out (like at a parade or local gathering, and it seems to me that too many people are asking me about him (esp: "Oh my Mom would love one of those"), I start telling people that he's a German shepherd mix from the shelter. Reaction: "Oh, yeah, I see that! Yeah, look at those ears" I don't want everyone to have a corgi. IMO you have to "get" them: they're smart, intuitive, sometimes cagey, and too forgiving. And, they don't "get' cars and other dogs that don't love them.

I'm rambling. Welcome, sue and pickett on Virginia's chesapeake bay

he's adorable!
we also have a 14 week old Corgi named Westin (fawn & white)
and he has black tips on his back still, too!
but he has been slowly losing the black as he has gotten older.
good luck!
congratulations on your new addition!
