Hello - 11-25-2007, 08:52 PM

Hello,
My name is Ellen and I live in NW PA, near the NY border. My husband and I have a 6 year old Pembroke Corgi named Gizmo and an 11 year old American Shorthair Silver Tabby cat named Jenny. Gizmo is a wonderful dog, who we rescued nearly 3 years ago from our Humane Society. Jenny has never accepted Gizmo, but they tolerate each other most of the time.
I used to be a member of this forum under a different name, but was rarely able to post because we had a dial-up connection. Last week we finally got a high speed connection, so I'm back and hope to visit more often. I'm looking forward to learning more about the breed.

Welcome back Ellen! Gizmo is a great name. I like your story about rescueing him from the life of "shelter rebounding" . It's funny how some dogs will fit in with one family and not make it in another. Don't think my Duchess would be a good pet in another family. But we love her little excentricities as well as you love Gizmo's. I read Gizmo's profile, how he doesn't like some noises. That is a lot like Duchess's not liking my brother to sneeze.

Welcome Ellen! I think having an adult dog and adult cat "tolerate" each other is a success. They may even warm up to each other in time. Charlie came into our house with two brother kitties, 4 years old, Tangent and Cosine; and one 13 year old kitty, Einstein. Einstein will rarely come into the same room with Charlie. Cosine tolerates Charlie. Tangent loves to play with Charlie and I occassionly catch the two of them sleeping together in the recliner. (Of course Tangent used to think he was bigger than my dear departed rottweiler and loved to tease him...Tangent has no fear!)

Look forward to hearing more stories about Gizmo!

When I babysat my aunt's corgi pup, my cats were scared at first, but after a very short time they were just fine with him. Of course there wasn't any cuddling or anything, but I think that if given enough time, they would be fine with it. Hee hee, that would be wonderful. I just have to hope!

Anyway, welcome, enjoy your stay!
