Hi,
I am new to posting but have read through the forum before we picked up Jabba two months ago (my husband wanted to name him Jabba the Mutt, but I refused to call my lovely purebred corgi a mutt : ) ). I'm glad there is a forum for helpful information re: pwc here!
P.S. Love the corgi smilies!

Welcome! I am currently recovering from the fit I just had over how cute your baby is. The first picture is exceptionally cute! How is he adjusting?
Someday, I'll be with you, dear corgi!

Pleased that you have dropped the word 'mutt' - it always has been a rude sounding word to me and not endearing.
I can see how Colby fits in with Corgi. I have penned a song to Taylor based on the tune from (All day, all night ) Mary-Ann. Part of it goes like this: Taylor-man, oh Taylor-man won't you come with me.
We can have a picnic lunch with treats for you and me.
Leave your old Mamma home, she never would agree
To me having a baby Corgi.

Oh my, what an adorable baby! We got Gizmo as an adult, so never had the pleasure of seeing him in the puppy stage. Someday I'll have time to figure out how to post pictures, and I'll send some of him.

Jabba and I thank you for your kind replies. : ) I haven't had my latest pictures put on a disk yet, so those are a little over two months old, when we first brought him home. He finally had his last shots and can go to training (which he really needs--I have no doubts he was the leader of his pack!) but he has issues with parasites I'd like to get rid of before I let other dogs around him. He has this problem with eating poop, and it doesn't seem to matter what kind it is, so he keeps reinfecting himself. He started out with Giardia (sp?) and one other parasite, but thanks to the rabbits who seem to poop out ten times their weight in our yard, he now has tapeworm. We've tried Forbid from the vet and now we're using this Stop Eating Poop stuff from the pet store, but it only seems to help a little. When he's alone during the day, we can't stop him from eating his poop, and it's hard to control him eating the rabbit poop because when he sniffs around to go, he gets it in his mouth and swallows it before you can get it from him. What a stinker! Needless to say, I won't always accept his kisses!

I only had trouble with the cat box with Duncan. I noticed the cat box had hardly any "presents" to scoop out when I first brought him home. So, I had to watch to see if the cats were having a problem or was Duncan helping me clean the box out.....finally caught him in the act. He must of thought they were doggie tootsie rolls LOL! So, upstairs went the box and that has taken care of my problem. Since I've never allowed him to go upstairs, he doesn't look for it.

With some of the horrific stuff that some dogs eat, it is fortunate for us that dogs have the quickest return to a clean mouth of any animal in the world including of course, humans. From memory, it takes just 30 minutes for a dog to return to a sterile mouth while with humans it is a few hours.

You'll need to fence off the rabbit area so he can't get to it. That's going to be the only way to keep him away from it.
As for Forbid I've not tried it but I've yet to hear anyone who has say that it's worked. In fact I've not heard of any one method other than picking up the poop before the dog gets to it to have worked.
It's a pretty common dog problem. Lots of dogs do it.

Thank you.
The only problem is that although very small, our yard is fenced in. Jabba is now too big to get underneath the fence, but these stupid (or should I say, smart) rabbits can still get in. Thanks to the snow we had this weekend, the amount of rabbit poop I can easily see is ridiculous. The pet rabbits I had as a child never pooped that much! My sister suggested getting a cone. I don't really want to, but it may be the only thing to keep him from eating the rabbit poop outside or his own poop while we are gone. Has anybody had any success using a cone? I've had to do that with other dogs for medical conditions and I really don't want to use one, but if he tests positive for parasites again next month, I need to do something.
TIA for your help!
Shannon

Until your last post, I thought these were your rabbits. Are they neighbor's rabbits or wild rabbits? Either way, I take it the rabbits are digging under? You might try digging a 10-12 inch trench along the fence line, staple a mesh wire (like chicken wire with smaller holes) at the bottom of the fence and bury the the mesh below ground. You could also just try pouring small rocks (but large enough to make it too much effort for a rabbit to dig into) in any rabbit holes or low spots where the rabbits are coming through.
If you're pretty sure the tapeworm is coming from the rabbit poop (tapeworm is normally from eating a flea - but can be gotten from eating feces), you'll have to clean it up. Tapeworm eggs can lay dormant for a long time. Once the rabbit poop is gone, your puppy's monthly wormer should kill the worms and even if he eats his own poop, all the eggs should be dead from the wormer.
I stopped my rottweiler from eating "cat cookies" out of the litter box by saturating a "cat cookie" with Bitter Apple and leaving it (on a stack of paper plates) for him just outside the cat box. After tasting a "bitter" cat cookie each day for about 3 days (he went for them, then spit them out), he lost his taste for cat cookies and never even went near the cat box again. (I know, I know "How disgusting"...but it worked!) You could try lacing Jabba's poop with bitter spray...then see if he still likes the taste (some dogs don't get deterred with Bitter Apple).
A cone collar is not a good permanent solution.

Thanks for the suggestions--yes, these are wild rabbits. I'm hoping my husband will be agreeable to these suggestions. Since Jabba eats his own poop in the house (usually when we are gone, but sometimes while we are home he won't bark to let us know he has to go) , my husband wants to do the "nose in the poop/pee" trick. Everything I've read has warned against this, though it supposedly worked with his parents' dog. Yelling at him while he is in action doesn't seem to help, but since we'll be starting training classes soon, I'm trying to convince my husband to be more patient. I''d be very grateful for any advice; I don't want his nose in his poop anymore than he wants it himself!

P.S.
Jabba has had Bitter Apple used on things he likes to chew, but it hasn't helped
