Hello from Philadelphia - 01-28-2008, 11:18 AM

Hello! I adopted Bandit, a Pembroke, from a corgi rescue in Maryland earlier this month. He's three years old, and I am totally in love with him! He's my little buddy.

So far, he's doing well, after suffering some neglect in his past (who could neglect these guys?!) and I think I'm going to have a hard time getting him to socialize. He likes people and other dogs, but he's very shy at first and he definitely does not like when anyone, besides us, comes in the house.

I'll be lurking around here mostly, looking for tips and advice, and hope to post as my schedule allows.

Thanks!

Hi dancer,

Welcome! Congratulations on your new addition. I agree, who could neglect these little guys??? Kudos to you for rescuing! I'll bet with your stable, loving and patient home, he'll come around and learn to trust again in time.

Keep us posted!

There's a yahoo list for shy k-9's. I'd recommend you join that.

Also, just give him some time to adjust. Don't baby him when he's afraid. You act normal and he will take cues from you. If you tell him "it's ok" or "poor doggy" him, he'll think it's ok to be afraid or that something is wrong and he should be afraid.

Welcome Dancer and Bandit I'm glad you rescued your little guy too. So he'll be your watch dog. LOL Mine don't mind if anyone comes in but they sure go nuts. Everybodys buddy. Don't you wonder already how you lived with out him? Sweet aren't they? I'm Vannette with Katie and Cody. We are in Washington State.

Hi Dancer and congrats on your new family member. I'm new here, too. The members here are really nice and make you feel so welcome! I've learned a ton of things from them already.Like what Peggy said about not babying him when he's upset. The vet said the same thing, but didn't explain why. I just thought my vet was odd. Peggy my vet thanks you.

I know you'll have a lot of fun here Dancer. Welcome!

Well, glad to know you have a good vet and not an odd one!
