Hello
Hi...my name is Monica. My fiancee and I are planning on getting a corgi before the end of the year, and I just wanted to begin meeting with other corgi owners and possibly find reputable and knowledgeable breeders in the Northern California area. I feel like I'm getting ready for a baby, all this planning and research. This is our first pure bred dog, as we have both had mutts growing up. We have three adult cats and no children, but plan on having one in the next few years. We live in Pioneer, CA (Amador County) in the hills and we do get snow (average about 4 feet in our area), and I love seeing corgis in snow. I would appreciate any starter tips for finding and buying a dog.
Thanks! Monica |

Welcome Monica. Your best starting point for finding a breeder of Pembroke's is the Golden Gate Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club. You can find a link to their homepage under regional/affiliate clubs on the PWCCA site <http://www.pwcca.org> For Cardigans, check the breeder listing on the CWCCA site <http://www.cardigancorgis.com>
As for some things to look for in researching and selecting a breeder, we've recently covered some of the subject in this forum. A current thread now is the one called Selling Price and I did a whole post titled - Finding a Breeder as a separate thread not long ago. Check through the thread list here and see if you can't come up with it. Since you are planning on having a human baby in the next few years, please do mention that to the breeder you choose. A number one reason we see corgis come into rescue is incidents with babies and toddlers that were in the home before the baby was born. Corgis "can" be wonderful with children, and working with a breeder who is going to factor the future addition to the family into the equation as they help you select a puppy is going to be a big step forward in making sure there is success in that area. There are a number of things you too can do as well to help the adjustment of the new addition work out well. Good luck! Debbie |
