My pups got here safe and sound. I was nervous for them. They left Missouri at six am and were in Alaska by 2:30. The were very resilient and happy. I bathed them, and they were so good in the bath. Already they are totally different. The female is more independent than the male. She is fourteen weeks. She is intelligent and was so kind to my seven month old doxie Mazie. I was worried as Mazy is spoiled and only four and a half pounds. Mazy was so happy to play with her new corgis. The male puppy is ten weeks old. He is more clingy, and followed me around all evening. Between them both there was only two accidents this evening. I was suspecting Mazie did one of the accidents though. We haven't named them yet. I will post pictures in the morning. They are sleeping quietly in their crate. They seem well put together, and have great temperments. I can tell this is going to be so fun, but a lot of work. My parents loved them to peices. They are the only people outside my husband and kids that saw them. I told most people to wait a couple of days to let them adjust.

Typical for corgi females.

Probably just think of each other as extended littermates.

As they are from MO, reading the thread "Three tris and a red" and Michael's comments about the nurture of those puppies should give you some insight into the earliest weeks of your puppies.

Julie,
I'm so excited for you! You had asked me how Doxie's and Corgi's compare ... well, I think Doxie's and more portable ... you can carry them around (your Doxie is really small compared to ours, Carmar is 13 pounds and Seel is 9 pounds ... seel is a true mini where as I think Carmar is a tweeny). I don't know either breed well from breeding or anything, only from my experiance with both. Each dog has it's own personality but I think Doxie's have a bigger stuborn streek. Corgi's seem to be very easy going and big time people fans. They instintually know baby from child, child from adult and adult to geriatic and adjuts their actions accordingly ... at least Harley will as has every one who I've talked to who has owned one will. It's really neat to watch them interact with people. Now, this is not to say we don't love our Doxie's, we do ... all the dog's are SPOILED in our house.
How do you deal with small children and Mazy? We have a set of triplet neices who visit once a year from Texas and Seel who is now 10 months old was only the size of yor Mazy the last time they came thru ... I was terrified they would hurt her (they were 3 then) so I kept a vigallant eye and never allowed the puppy to be alone with them. We don't have any children, I'm use to kids ... I have a large family and have taken care of many, many children but never with a small dog ... plus, I think, the girls are a bit on the wild side when they are here because they are out of their routine, allowed to eat massive amounts of sugar along with no discpline from their parent's. Their parents feel that while they are on vacation anything pretty much goes. Ok, we won't go there ... the girl's are pretty good with me anyway.
On another topic, Seel, our 10 month old Doxie, is on the DDD side (Doggie deficet Disorder) our own little Denis the Menace. Is this a normal thing for Doxie puppies? I wasn't around when Carmar came here so I have nothing to compare it to and Harley (the Corgi) was a cake walk ... still is. I remember Seel's mother being kinda hyper but I just put that off to the excitement of people being around.
It's nice to have others who have both these dogs to talk to. I think you will find that the Corgi's are a great breed.
Ok, I'm gonna go look at the puppes now.

Hello,
My husband and I train our kids and they have to mind. I always watch our 20 month old. If I leave the room, I would never leave her or the puppies unnattended. It is a bad Idea. My second youngest is almost seven. So it is not like I have to worry about her. I don't allow any child to carry around puppies. I don't care if they are ten, it is not allowed. I have never had a puppy injured as I have bred several litters of miniature dachshunds in both smooth and long haired. I would never breed a hyper dog. I have wonderful doxies, and I had a couple pups that were breeding prospects that did not turn out, temperment wise. I spayed them. I refuse to breed dogs that do not meet my expectations, temperment, health or structure wise. I love my doxies. I only breed one litter a year. My puppies are so well socialized. I want to do agility and obedience, and doxies are not very obedient. I am excited about the corgis and my kids love them. They are very neat so far.

Two puppies have kept me on my toes -
05-29-2008, 11:07 AM
My puppies are now four and five months old. I have not posted in a while. My red female is twelve pounds and she is the older of the two. Rumor, our male is 16 pounds, is a burley boy. These puppies are now civilized, house trained and are such joy. If anyone wondered why I didn't post for a while, I literally had no time. I am so excited about the fact summer is here and now our pups are trained. The male is more socialable and obedient. The female has a mind of her own. They are both wonderful puppies. So pretty. I will post updated pictures soon.

My youngest son now aged 11 is not allowed to pick up my now five year old Pem Taylor - my son has never being ikely to pick Taylor up correctly. But he can have Taylor on his lap and on his bed.
