new pups - 03-04-2008, 02:03 PM

Hello,

My name is Julie and I live in Alaska. I am the proud owner of two corgi puppies. They are a tri male, and a red sable female. New to the breed, I joined the forum to meet others with the breed. I plan on doing obedience, and agility and depending how well my pups turn out, conformation. I am excited about the new puppies, and can't wait to get them started. I am looking forward to next Monday, March 10, when they arrive!

How lovely for you to get two gorgeous Corgi pups. I wonder though, why you would choose to get two puppies at the one time - giving you five times the work and having to shuffle around infividual and one-on-one attention which also gives each one some time out from one another. Also they both get old together and very senior dogs can present all kinds of problems. Are they brother and sister? If not, are you planning to become a breeder?

Welcome to GoCorgi! Are they littermates, brother and sister? Two is certainly twice the work...and twice the fun. Two of my kitties are littermate brothers that the animal shelter didn't want to split up. At the time I thought it was one cat too many, but now of course I'm happy to have the double joy.

Looking forward to your puppy "tales" and like everyone else...pictures!

The two pups are not brother and sister, they are from the same breeder. Dogs are my hobby. I have bred and owned dachshunds for 8 years now. I usually have 4 dachshunds and focus on 1-2 litters per year. I love the breed, but we have goats, ducks, and chickens and I want a dog that is able to herd, do obedience and agility. I want to show these pups and get health clearances on them before considering breeding them. Ultimately these puppies will be our companions and if their conformation isn't good enough to breed, they will be spayed and neutered and live out there lives here with my family. I am extremely good at multi-tasking and have a lot of energy.I am home during the day with my ten year old son so we will do this together. He is home schooled, while my three girls go to school. I also have a 20 month old at home. We are going to start out herding khaki cambpels, how much fun will that be!

Some people may think it is optimal to have to handle one puppy at a time. But you have two coming so make the best of it and enjoy your new corgis.
Alaska is a big state (duh) I am just thinking it has climate extremes, from the very cold to the more moderate coast areas. I assume you are in the latter region since most of the population would live there.
I live in Massachusetts which is moderate most of the year. A lot of New Englanders go to Florida to retire but I would prefer either Washington State or Alaska, though I have never been further west than New York state.
Welcome and hope you can post some pictures of your pups so we can oow and aah over them too. Jane

Welcome, so good to hear you already have experience in rasing puppies.

And great on the herding. Are you going to show them too?

Who are you getting them from? There aren't many breeders in Alaska are there?

Peggy

Yes, I can't wait. But I am glad the weather is getting nicer. It was almost 50* and sunny today. I live in Ketchikan, Alaska. It is an hour flight from Seattle, Wa, and is on an island. We are considered a rain forest. It rains a lot here an average of 13 feet. But it is very beautiful.

I live in South East Alaska, in Ketchikan. Are weather is almost the same as Seattle. It is usually 10 degrees colder here. I visit Seattle alot and am joining the corgi club in Washington. Hopefully, I will be able to make the speciality show in 2009. It is in August.
