Hello fellow Corgi lovers! So glad this site is here, I get to ask all the questions that pop up before I adopt a Corgi. While I dont have one yet, I'm carefully looking for the right one who will get along with my cats, and who my cats will get along with! Not sure if I'll be getting a puppy or an adult yet, I'm just glad I found out about this wonderful breed two years ago!

Welcome Pemcorgi, where are you from? If you get a puppy the dog will grow up knowing kitties and should do well.
Depending on your situation, I vote for everyone who can, to take in a dog that needs to be rehomed. An older corgi should be housebroken and not require the training and frequent potty breaks that go with raising one from a puppy.
My Duchess was seven when I got her. She fit in seamlessly with my family, except for the cat. The cat and dog are sworn enemies. Duchess could take a cat easily but not this huge cat that is taller than herself. So they co-exist.
Tell us more about your family and what you want in a pet? Like, cuddler, walking companion? Jane

It seems likely that my cats would be able to get used to a puppy more easily than an adult dog, seeing a little puppy I dont think they would look on that as being a threat as they might if it's an adult corgi. On the other hand, if I find an adult that is laid back and is used to cats, they could very easily learn to get along. Personally I'd prefer raising a puppy myself, even if it means all the training and puppy issues. Actualy, I think I would enjoy it! As for temperment, more of a laid back but eager for a walk corgi would be perfect. But really, I'll be happy with any Corgi!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the Board. I am Chip's Mom and I have three corgis. They are like potato chips you can't have just one. I love mine dearly and they do make life more exciting.

Hi PemCorgis and Welcome!

How many kitties do you have? Charlie came into the "cat house" at 10 1/2 weeks and I introduced them very slowly. Tangent loves to wrestle with Charlie and "asks for it" everyday. His brother Cosine will sit in the same chair if Charlie it totally zonked out napping, and runs if he opens his eyes. Einstein, my old-man kitty, will only look over the arm of the chair to see if Charlie is there to hiss at and run away.

Charlie likes all the kitties!

I'm sure you'll be able to integrate yours too, whether you get a puppy or a dog who has lived with cats before.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome! I just burst out laughing at the picture, it's so great! That makes me positive I'll be able to introduce a Corgi to my three cats, one of whom looks just like the cat on the left.

I know, I'm wondering if I'll be able to stop with just one Corgi!

I know what you mean! Next year, when Charlie is about 2 y/o, I'll be deciding whether I want to add another "dog buddy" to our motley pack. If I do, I'm hoping it won't be red/orange, and white. It's starting to get a little creepy that all my animals...and my furniture...are all color coordinated. It was purely coincidental. Really.

Can't wait to hear what you decide on, and how it goes with the feline friends!

Hello Pemcorgi's,
When I frist got Harley at 11 Weeks we had 2 kitties. A 23 year old kitty named Mae and a 21 yr old kitty named Ottis. I had Mae since she was 3 days old and she had been thru "life" with me. Mae was use to dogs so she welcomed Harley and let her know she was in charge. Ottis on the other hand never really likes dogs ... Why ... no clue but he seemed to get great pleasure in ambushing dogs. Harley was different, Ottis seemed to take right to her and once Harley was big enough they had boxing matches, it was a riot. I always said I was gonna video tape one of those matches but I never did ... now it's too late (advice: never wait to do stuff). Corgi's seem to get along with most other animals ... kitties shouldn't be a problem. I once read that Cat's and Dog's can be closer friends then 2 cat's or 2 dog's.

23 and 21 year old cats?! Wow! I'd love it if my cats live that long! I have to find out what you're feeding them! So I guess it all depends on the different personalitys of the cats and Corgis. I'm pretty sure all my cats would be fine with a Corgi, just would take a little time for them to realize where they all are in the hierarchy. Thanks alot for letting me know!
