New... with a question..
Hello- I'm new to the site, I have been lurking for a few weeks reading the posts. I have a 1 1/2 year old pembroke corgi. We rescued her from a purebred rescue group here in Ohio, she has been a great addition to our family! Her name is Millie. We also have a schnauzer named John Wayne- they are best friends.
I also have a question. My husband noticed yesterday that Millie had a limp in her front foot- he checked her over and didn't find anything that bothered her when he pressed. Last night and this morning we checked her over again- she doesn't seem to be in pain no matter where we press or pull on her legs, but she is still limping. She is still managing to run around and play, though she stops more often then usual. She doesn't seem lethargic- I'm just concerned. Would it be possible for her to have pulled a muscle in her front leg? Should I just try some baby asprin to relieve any inflamation at home for a day or so before taking her to the vet? I tried to reach our vet this morning but she will be in surgery all day. Any advice?? Thank you, Jennifer |

Jennifer,
Yes it is possible she pulled a muscle, broke a toe, pulled a nail, maybe something stuck in her paw ... potentially could be a number of things. As a preventative, I'd recommend putting her on crate rest until you can get her into the vet and have her checked out. Disclaimer - I'm not a vet, nor do I "play" one anywhere . A baby aspirin most likely won't hurt her and I have given them to my own dogs under similar circumstances.Welcome to the forum and hope Millie feels better soon. Debbie |

The most common thing to make a Corgi limp without being in any great pain or diiscomfort is a muscle strain. So massaging the leg muscles frequently and little rest from anything vigourous - and Millie should be as right as rain in notime.

Thank you both for your help- my husband and I tried to get her to rest as much as possible over the past few days- we also gave her a baby asprin to help with any discomfort and she is doing much better now! Thanks for the advice, I think she did just strain a muscle. She's quickly getting back to her busy self!
