adoption
my name is janet and for the last ten years i have adopted corgis from the mayflower corgi group. my first corgi morgan lived with a woman who never left her home. morgan came to me litter box trained and had never been walked or allowed outside. after many months of trial and error, she became a great family pet. however, she developed lymphoma when she was seven and passed away. upon learning of her death, the mayflower group quickly found me jenna, my seven year old female. jenna's family had come upon hard financial times and was relocating. her foster mom trained her in agility and jenna introduced me to the world of agility trails. we asked and received three years ago a foster brother for jenna and scoobie entered our lives. he was a great brother and terrific companion for jenna and i. however, three months ago he developed lymphoma and has recently passed away. we realize he has left a large hole in our family and we are looking for a corgi in need of a home. we have contacted several corgi rescue groups and hope that by posting this letter someone will know of a corgi in need of a home.

Hi Janet
You've had terrible luck in losing two Corgis to cancer. One in three dogs get cancer and fifty percent of these die from the disease. You may wish to make a donation to a new organisation called World Canine Cancer Research, based in the USA. Good luck with your next Corgi. |

Hi Janet! You've been working with some great folks in the Mayflower rescue program. I'm the rescue chair for the Palmetto club's rescue program and have gotten to know a few of them through the rescue list as well had the opportunity to meet some of the Mayflies at specialties and such.
On the one hand it is good news that not too many corgis come into rescue up your way. On the other hand that is the not so good news as well. Kind of a double edged sword in the northeast. As you are a three time adopter from the Mayflower program, that should be a help should give you an edge on future corgis they might have become available. Just right now I'm not sure of what is available, if anything, in your area. I can send you the name of a couple of other rescue contacts in the Mayflower area, one in NY the other in MA/CT. The ones in MA/CT lean a little more towards corgi mixes, wonderful ladies and I know have soft spots for fluffies. (The lady in CT got the sweetest black headed tri fluffy from me. She was something of a special needs girl and Jeanne in CT was the absolute perfect home for her.) As a "rule" we generally limit our adoptions to the southeast. I'll keep an eye out on the Corgi Rescue list for you. Keeping a check on Petfinders would be a good idea. And I do know that the Ohio rescue groups stay pretty full, I'm just not sure how restrictive they are in their adoption range. I'll also be happy to send the NY contact's name as well as contact info for Diane & Jeanne in MA/CT respectively if you'd like. Debbie |

Janet
I sent you a private message. I wonder if you noticed it since I have not got a reply. I haven't had time this last few days to read all of the postings if you answered me through a thread. Anyway I will be away for a few days and I will look for your answer next week. Jane p.s. I am not sure my message got through. |
