Welcome to the site! Your Corgis are adorable. I have a Male Tri Pem, he is our first Corgi and we love him very much. I can tell by your post that yours are very loved. Enjoy that board and Michael will be happy that their are more Canadian Corgis. We used to live on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington and have driven to Vancouver, we thought it was beautiful.

Hi Barbara
I've got a nineteen year old son named Dylan. I gave him that name because of my affection for Welsh Corgis- and nineteen years go in New Zealand it was a very obscure name for a person. Nowadays it is very popular. Anyway my previous Pem, Hadlee had an op for a ACL on one of his back legs - my son at aged two had sat on Hadlee. Whilst Hadlee was recuperating from that op, the ACL went in his other back leg. THe strain on putting pressure on just one back leg was the downfall. He was fine again subsequently but he did lose a little flexibility and was unable to lie on his tummy with his back legs extended outwards. But he was diagnosed with both problems as soon as they arose so there was no fluffing around. My current Pem, Taylor really excels at agility - but I don't. So I actually need someone to take him to the next levels. It is semi-serious for me as agility in NZ is unfair because all the dog sizes are lumped together for competition purposes. Monty is having a tough time for one still young enough and who has previously been so active and involved. You're doing great with Dylan and sending out an important message - it is never too late to teach a dog new tricks and to give your dog more enjoyment and entertainment. |

Welcome Barbara. Hope your corgis are feeling better soon. I have a 12 yr old corgi and a 5 month old corgi. The 12 yr old had a ligament replacement on one of her back legs. You and Michael mentioned ACL, what is ACL? Is it the same as a ligament replacement, or something else? My 12 yr old has had the ligament replacement, pancreatis, and two cherry eyes. I'm wondering, is this all pretty normal for a corgi? I've had dogs all my life and never had these health issues with other breed dogs. I still love corgis the best, but was wondering if I could be facing all of these again with my pup.

Hi there, I grew up in Oshawa, and lived in Scarborough for a while before coming to the west coast, almost 30 years ago.

Barbara - it is quite common for a short legged dog to "wreck" a second back leg ligament in the way that my Hadlee did.
Re agility in NZ - I have been contemplating taking the NZ Kennel Club to court on the grounds that there is a breach of human rights in regard to the way they have formed unrestricted dog size rules to the agility competition that is held under their auspices. It is a human rights issue as we are the dogs owners. I have a neice who is studying to be a lawyer and she would love a challenge such as this. My only problem is that I do work for the NZKC and taking legal action against them would spell an end to my relationship with them. Apart from my monthly articles and stories in their magazine, they are to engage me to run the 2006 Canine Heroes Awards. Last edited by Michael Romanos; 06-08-2006 at 04:18 AM. |

Barbara,
We live in Sliverdale on the other side of sound from Seattle, near Bemerton and the Bangor Sub Base, I have been to Whitby Island my husband was in the Navy at the time. That whole area is beautiful with the Cascades on one side and the Olympics on the other. We did not have Maxi at the time but I am sure he would have loved the mountains. |

Re adding pictures to your Post - Using the 'Post Reply' button - Underneath the Text Box is a section titled 'Additional Options' - Second box in this is 'Attach Files - Manage Attachments'. This will enable you to add pics to individual posts.
I have never used the Quick Reply Box, not too sure about it.
