Hello everyone! I’m so glad to have found this website since it has shown me that I am not the only Corgi freak in the world. LOL. So far, I have got to say that every member on this site is very knowledgeable about Corgi’s and everyone has a great love for the breed.

First let me tell you a little bit about me. My name is John Rickel (people call me J.R.). I am 27 years old and I live in Belleville, Michigan. I have 7 cats and 1 Pembroke Welsh Corgi. I’ve always been a “cat person” and never really had the desire to own a dog.

My dog’s name is Lady. When I got her I thought she looked like Lady from the movie “Lady and the Tramp”, so that is what I named her. She just turned 1 year old on June 16 of 2006. I got her last October, so she was 4 months at the time. The story behind me getting her is one of sheer spontaneity . One day I just thought it would be cool to get a dog. I’ve never really owned a dog before and out of the blue I set out to find my dog.

I went to the local pet store with a pretty good idea of what I wanted in a dog. You know like the size, look, etc. The moment I saw her I knew I wanted her. Then when I was able to hold her and play with her, it sealed the deal. I’ve posted a few pictures of her playing with a ball and her with her boyfriend Vadar.

Vadar is our neighbors Corgi. He is about 5 months younger than her. He is a big boy. You can really tell in one of the pictures how big he is in comparison to her.

Lady has just been the most wonderful things that has happened to me. She gets me out of the house and she is truly a wonderful dog. She has shown me that I am no longer a “cat person”, but a “Corgi person” as well. My goal is to get another Corgi in my household as soon as possible. She wants a friend so bad. The cats can only take so much of her and she has a ton of energy.

I am completely on the opposite end of things as you. I am an older woman who always wanted a Corgi and just rescued Duchess last August. But like you I am enamored with the breed and my dog in particular.
Your avitar, shows us a beautifully intelligent and alert Lady. You were saying that her boyfriend is much larger than she is. Males generally go a few pounds heavier than females but make sure to keep Lady at her optimum weight. Corgis tend to overeat and because they are so adorable we want to give them love in the form of treats. Give her plenty of exercise to keep her in shape.
Welcome to the website. You seem chatty, so I feel I know you already. Jane

John,

Welcome to the site. you sound very animal orientated. My Pem, Cody,
just turned 8 months old and I also have 3 cats. Lady is a pretty girl.

You are right, Lady is a tiny girl and Vadar is a big boy, he reminds me
of my Cody. How much does your Lady weigh at 1 year of age?

Linda

Welcome J.R. My name is Kath, my PWC Abby is 18 months and we come from Down Under. You must have a really great household - so nice to find a guy who loves Cats - Michael please take note.

Lady looks so sweet and full of fun, I am sure she does give the cats a run for their money, but how nice that she has her friend Vadar as a neighbour. They look lovely together. Was this coincidence that you and your neighbour both have Corgis?

Welcome JR and Lady! I'm Debbie with a houseful of corgis (I do rescue for both breeds). Vadar is a BIG boy, you're right. I bet Lady keeps in right in line and on his toes though.

Welcome JR! Always nice to have another corgi "freak" to talk to! Lady is a beautiful girl, and we can all tell that you are a very proud daddy! My female Pem, Jackie, just turned one year on July 1, so our kids are about the same age. You will find lots of info and support on this site.

Lady is around 17 lbs I believe. I had to take her to the vet because she was acting real funny a couple of weeks ago. She had a fever and she didn't want to move or eat. The vet didn't know what was wrong with her. A couple of days after I took her to the vet, I found a tick on her. I was able to get it off her. I'm sure that was what was the matter with her. She has been fine since. I didn't realize we even had ticks in Michigan since I never had any outdoor pets. I check her regularly now when we take walks especially when you go deep in the bush. It really wasn't a coinicidence that we moved next door to another corgi. Actually they met my dog and they told me they always wanted to get a corgi and so the got one shortly afterward. The first corgi had actually died, i guess from pnemonia and they were given another from a warranty they had on that dog. I never did met that one, but Vadar is adorable. I have reffered her to the site and she may join soon. I do keep a watchful eye on her weight because I want to keep her at her desired weight and figure. I believe I've done a good job so far. The two corgis have alot of fun together. They wear each other out. He likes to dominate her and lay his big ole body on her. I have a couple of pics of them playing I'll post later today. She likes to run around him flirtatiously when he is on his leash and she is off hers. She'll go runnin and if she gets too far he'll bark and she'll come runnin back to him. It is soooo funny. Oh yeah, she thinks she is the fastest dog in the whole world and from the looks of it, she could very well be. Thank you all for the kind words for me and Lady.

Hello J.R. so nice to have another corgi fan here.
She is a beautiful corgi.
I have a 2 yr old female Darci, and a 15 week old male Egan.

I can relate so much with what you've said, about being so in love with this breed. I have had a really tough yr this yr (teenagers) and Darci has really played a big part of keeping me busy and happy, the unconditional love she has given me ........ It's like she knows just when I need her most to comfort me.

I look forward to getting to know you and Lady, and hearing all your corgi stories.

Ladys Daddy,

I am curious, in regards to the ticks, if you have a problem with Lyme disease
in your area(from deer ticks) - we do here in Wisconsin and I got Cody vaccinated for it. The deer tick is a quite a bit smaller than the regular tick - almost looks like a tiny brown spot on your arm.

Hi John and Lady.
I don't blame Lady for wanting another Pem for company - what with being surrounded by seven deadly sins ( oops, cats, I mean).
However I am older than 27 yet I wouldn't wish to be laden down - however lovely it might sound - with so many pets and mouths to feed. At one stage I did own a Pem, five gold fish and an Indian Ringneck parrot - but you feed one fish, you feed the lot, and Hadlee, the Pem use to take the parrot (named Dandee - short for one of his favourite foods: dandelion) for walks with Dandee clinging onto Hadlee's back.

Very Nice Michael,

I knew you didn't like cats.

John,

I would love to know the names of your 7 cats?
