Hi, I'm Judy, and I have one fluffy male pembroke corgi named "Gizmo". I also have two mutts (Sammy and Gracie) and one cat (Kei).
Gizmo will be two in October, and is my heart dog. I got him from my cousin who is a breeder of showdogs. His mother and father are both champs. Gizmo was from a litter of 11 puppies! 5-6 of them are fluffs, and 4 of them have started their show careers. One of his brothers just acquired his championship last month, and one of his sister's is really close to getting hers. Gizmo's long fluffy coat kept him from becoming a showdog, which was to my advantage. Gizmo has his own webpage at Dogster.com, here's the link: http://www.dogster.com/?335919 This looks like a really good site, I have lots of catching up to do. Judy & Gizmo |

Judy,
Hello, my name is Linda and my Pem, Cody is 8 months old. Your Gizmo is very cute - Take note Fluffypants!!! He came from a litter of 11! - I have never heard of such a large litter from a Corgi - that amazes me. Welcome to the forum and hope to see more pictures. Linda |

It is uncommon for Corgis to have a litter as big as 11 and for all pups to survive and be in full health. The breeder of your Gizmo is lucky - though I'm sure she/he was not overjoyed with half of them fluffs from conformation show champion parents.

Litter of 11
Yeah, I was pretty amazed when my cousin told me that Velvet had 11 puppies. Only one in the litter had any medical problems, it had a cleff lip, which my uncle (her dad) took that puppy and had the surgery to correct it.
The litter was also supplimented with extra food and nutrients while they were still nursing. If you'd like to see a picture of them, you can go to this webpage. This is my cousin's webpage, and you'll see all of the litter with her kids at Christmas. http://home.wamego.net/sylvfarm/default.htm Aren't they cute, how could I resist taking one of those puppies! I had to really talk my hubby into taking one. We already had 3 dogs at that time, so most people thought I was crazy to even consider another one. My whole family wouldn't back me on getting a new pup until I brought him home. My sister also had the opportunity to get a female, but she turned it down. We had to plan all this ahead of time since the puppies would be traveling from Kansas to Indiana. I met a friend of my cousin's in St. Louis to get Gizmo, and my heart melted when he looked at me an tilted his head when I talked to him.

If a Corgi had 11 pups in New Zealand - it would have made the major newspapers and TV.
Also, there are very few Corgi fluffles produced in NZ. one of them is in the Corgi walking group I organise - and she gets all the attention a Corgi female could ever want from my Taylor. Did your cousin get any publicity or was it all kept "in house." Last edited by Michael Romanos; 07-13-2006 at 09:28 PM. |

Eleven is heard of more in Cardigans here than in Pems. I think there was a litter of 17 Cardigans a few years ago. Not sure all survived, but I could check. I do know of a litter of 13, all survived and I just visited with the dam of that litter a couple of weeks ago. She's wonderful and very happy with her two human charges now.
A daughter of hers had 11, all survived. Now that the grand daughter has been bred, it will be interesting to see how many she has.Debbie |
