Hello my name is Kathy, I got my welsh corgi when he was just a puppy he will be 5 in Feb. He has a personality like a human. Bear goes almost everywhere with us. You do have to watch that you don't over feed him, he is always trying to steal the cats or our St.Bernards food, he will also go down by the horse when I am feeding it and try to eat the feed that drops on the ground. In the future I would like to get another corgi.

Thanks Kathy

I love this discription of the eating habits of your corgi. I have to feed my cat on a corner table so Duchess doesn't get at his food. Imagine a corgi getting at the food of a St Bernard or a horse? How does your corgi get along with the horse generally? My Pem does not seem to even see horses when we encounter them on our walks in the park where there may be several. At first I would leash her and take her off the roadway but when she didn't annoy the horses I just let her go.
The only dogs we have had any trouble with is a large group of greyhounds that people were walking on leashes. It must have been a club and I took her aside just so the dogs didn't think she was a rabbit.
welcome and let us know more about your dog. Jane

Pem Corgis are usually excellent with and around horses, donkeys etc. In parts of the USA among the equestrian fraturnity, Corgis are popular because they are great company for horses and confident and friendly among them - especially ameniable in this regard for owners of a single horse.

Thought I'd join in just to add a little traffic to the board. My Cardigan has perfected the "stare" when she wants some of our food. When me or my wife starts to eat something, she just plops down next to us and stares at us, never moves her eyes and holds that stare for as long as it takes to get a bit of whatever we are eating. And I mean she will literally hold that stare for as long as it takes. When I have given her the last piece that I want her to have, I give her the "no more" sign and she leaves but not without 1 more stare.

The Corgi stare is a great tool. I believe it comes with the territory - so to speak - with Corgis being herding dogs. But Corgis can further develop the stare as in "please give me some of your food" through practice and successful results at the people's meal table. Some Corgis refine the stare with a touch of cuteness so that even tough people may concede to their dog's desire for a sample of what must smell absolutely glorious.
At dinner time, my Corgi never hangs around me but gets between my wife and daughter where he knows they are more vunerable to his presence and posture.
If you never ever feed or give your Corgi a single titbit from the table at mealtimes from day one then your Corgi would likely give away all his/her acting out the part they often play. But then again, there is the smell factor.
