Rescued Corgi

Hello,

I'm Sherry Robinson from Coweta, Oklahoma. Our female Corgi was stolen on June 23rd. My husband and I have been so distraught, and I'm usually tough with animal crises but this breed is just so different! We have placed posters, flyers, had some calls but it wasn't our dog, so we resigned ourselves to be Corgi less.

Then I started thinking about Corgi rescue and contacted a local chapter. She said there was a vet clinic that had a male, same breed and age as our female, Pembroke and when I got the pictures emailed to me, he has the same markings as our female but is tan! He has been living at a vet clinic since May and we are going to drive 2 1/2 hours to go pick him up on Sunday, at the home of the vet assistant. She rescued him, had him neutered and shots.

We are so happy to have a Corgi back in the family! There will be new rules, though, he can't go outside while we are at work. He will have to stay in the house. But he will have horses to push around and we will see if he likes trail rides as much as our Delilah.

Sherry,

It sounds like your Corgi was taken from your yard while you were at work?
I am so sorry for your situation - I can see that you must be devastated. Was she microchipped? How old was she and how long did you have her?

I am glad you are getting a rescue, but I hope that maybe somehow your
Delilah will be reunited with you - have you posted her disappearance on the
internet?

Just for your info there are two web sites you may want to check out
go to

www.missingpets.com and
www.pmia.com

You can post and search for recovered dogs on these sites.

Maybe something will turn up on your Delilah. Good luck to you.

Linda

Hi Sherry
Now that's a sad story and I hope it has a very happy ending. The fellow you are picking up may be somewhat different from your Delilah. But it sounds he is going to have plenty of fun and company - apart from being house bound. Anyway, when my house is unoccupied and we don't take the Corgi ,my Pem is almost always left inside the house summer or winter. But it's nothing to do with any danger of being stolen. My property is very private but we have a bush reserve on the other side of the Wi Tako Stream, and Taylor could wander onto it any time he fancies. The reserve is great for track walks and stuff but it carries poison bait in off-track places, to kill possums, and this is harmful to dogs if consumed in large quantities.

Yes, your best ending is to also have Delilah turn up. But let us know how it all goes with the guy you're picking up.

How someone can just steal a family pet is just beyond me. To have no heart for either the owner or the dog is just something I can't fathom. With that said, I have heard of people stealing dogs before so I make sure that I keep an eye out for my dog when I let her go outside. I'm sorry you have had to witness this human disgrace of an act. I hope one day you will be reunited with Delilah. I also hope your new dog with help with the pain and frustration that you must be feeling. Good luck!

Oh Sherry, I am so sorry about what happened to Delilah. I agree with Lady's Daddy about the horrible people who would do that sort of thing.

Let me say, though, that you are a very strong and caring person to turn this into a positive situation for another homeless corgi. Hopefully you will be rewarded by having Delilah return as well . . . and then you will have DOUBLE the fun!

Microchipping may be something you want to consider for both the new guy and Delilah (WHEN she comes back . . . not IF). It's not foolproof, but will increase your chances, and it's not expensive at all!

Jackie and I are keeping our paws crossed for your reunion with Delilah. Be sure & post pics of your new boy & keep us up to date on his progress.

Is there any possibility that she dug a hole near a fence or behind a plant to get out? I've not heard of a dog being stolen from a yard before. Best of luck in her turning up. You might want to fax photos to all vets and pet stores in the local area.

I also thought of her contacting any Rescues in her area that might have
found her dog and thought she was a stray. She could go to Petfinder and
get the names of the different Rescues in her state and email them to be on
the look out. Even if someone may have stolen their dog, maybe they took it
home and then decided they did not want her afterall and maybe let her go -
who knows?

We had this problem awhile ago in a town not far from us where dogs were coming up missing in their own yards. Unfortunately there are people out there that will resort to anything. Even though we live out of town, Chip and Maybelle, and Lady are never left out when we aren't home. It is hard for honest, pet loving people to understand especially with the shelters overflowing with animals wanting good homes. I sure hope your little one comes home too.
