Corgi Questions - 08-23-2006, 12:29 PM

Hello my name is Nancy and my Corgis name isGeorge. I have a few questions about my corgi ;whom we all love very much. Are there alot of corgis with long hair because Georges' is realy long? Also how is the best way to keep weight off of a semi-lazy corgi?

Welcome Nancy and George. It sounds as if you have been blessed with "da fluff" in George - he is what is called a fluffy. This is a coat fault and should not be shown or bred, but make charming and very handsome companions. You are in good company with the fluffies as there are some delightful ones on the forum.

Weight - how much are you feeding him? and how much does he weigh? Scale back on the amount of food you are feeding him and more exercise are the short answers to your last question.

Debbie

Welcome Nancy (and George)! Tell us more about your guy - how old is he? If George has longer fur than is standard for the breed (especially evident around the ears, neck, underbelly and RUMP!), he could be a Fluffy! Several of us here have "Fluffies" and we ADORE their special "look"! Our Corgis' are in every other way TRUE Corgis except for the long fur, which the AKC states is a "serious coat flaw"! Take a look at photos of Gizmo, Butters, Jackie, and Chloe as examples of Fluffs...does George resemble some of their characteristics? Another good test is: when you are out walking do people ask why your Sheltie has such short legs?

Margo
ps - we will be anxious to see photos of George!!

Welcome to the board....
Ohhh another fluffy......... A guy on another board picked out a fluffy and had it shipped to him form Canada. His name is Shippo. He is such a looker.

Ditto Debbie's question.
How old is George, how much does he weigh, what kind of food do you feed him and how much ???

I know all to well how easy a corgi can put on weight, our Darci has to watch her girlish figure daily.

Welcome to the board Nancy & George!

Yes, our corgis can be little chowhounds . . . and they're so darn cute . . . very easy to pack on the pounds!

My 1yo Pem Jackie is one of the fluffies on the site (along with the rest of the Fluffy Bunch that Margo mentioned). Can't wait to see pics of George & hear about his Corgi Capers!

Hi Nancy
I think the first thing to get your Corgi out of being lazy is to grab the leash, tell George it's fun time and rush down to the nearest place you can let him off the lead and either run around with him and do some repitition sprints or have something like a ball - large or tennis-type or a stick that can't be easily splintered and let him go chase or he'll let you go chase and he may eventually join in he fun. With a large ball he might care to join you in soccer madness.
Lazy Corgis are usually overweight - so its a matter of trimming him down through the same methods as for humans - less food, less fatty food and more exercise and done at speed such as power walking for 30 minutes twice a day.
