Douglas - named after the Port? Does he get called Doug or Dougie You Aussies are good at shortening and reshaping names.
My wife has a brother living in Perth and he owns a pub and a liquor outlet - and a dog is a member of his family. My wife and two of my kids visited Perth a couple of years ago and said the restrictions on dogs is pretty severe in Perth - unlike most other cities and towns in Australia. There was a dog park close by to where my brother-in-law lives and at around six every night loads of people and dogs congregated there for human and canine socialising and a barbie or two. I have to get use to seeing Pems with tails. A bit hard to take in. You Aussies just had to be in the forefront of this business didn't you. Douglas seems a contented chappy. I am suprised your family thought that the restrictions here were harsh. Perth is actually one of the less regulated cities in Australia. Docking is still legal here in WA (illegal in all other states) but it has to be done by a vet. Mind you - I have not heard of a vet that is willing to do it - hence Doug's tail. I am unsure as to where I stand on the docking debate. We hope that his tail will not be damaged or cause him back problems as per the debates presented by pro-dockers. I personally prefer the look and am lucky to have a dog with a high tail carriage so that it doesn't lie on the ground when he is walking. Tail or no tail - he's a gorgeous little monster. |

Oh well, compared to where we live I suppose, it must seem regimented - the dog restrictions rules. Apparantly that's why this particular park I wrote about in my previous posting, was so popular, a great outlet for dog people All manners of dogs were racing around together off-lead and my wife was told that very few fights had ever occured - and if they did, were quickly snuffed out. Of course 6pm at night is among the best times in Perth to be out and about -away from the heat of the day. My brother-in-laws wife was up at five-six am most days, gardening, because it gets too hot for that kind of work later on - at least in the summer and near-summer months.
Perth is a lovely city. My brother-in-law first went there to work as a life guard on the beach. He actually represented Australia in international dragon boat racing - and competed in the world champs in Singapore (I think it was Singapore). With different rules on dog docking in Australia -it must get a little confusing - a bit like American Pit Bull Terriers in the USA - where in some States they are banned and in others they are allowed and in others, other restrictions apply to the breed. It is ironic that docking in your State is left in the hands of vets because the band method of docking is by far the best and probably painless and that is not the method that vets use. |

Welcome Bec and Douglas! Oh he is a real cutie. I am so not used to seeing pems with the tail! I have a bunny butt boy named Dillon. He is my ray of sunshine, my pride and joy, and yes he consumes my life too! They are so very special. Douglas is so adorable as a tiny pup- I like the digging photo! He is making me want another puppy now!!! I have to stay away from Dillon's breeder's house when she has puppies or i will have to get another one ( I am waiting after next may when Dillon turns two, then we will consider it). This is a fun place to come and talk about our addiction
to corgis! Emilie |

Welcome Bec and Douglas. The photos are great, and Douglas looks so happy and loving. Looking forward to seeing more pics. Very glad to have another Aussie join the group.
My PWC is called Abby and she is 21 months old today! We live at Deception Bay in Queensland. I am very fond of Perth, having lived and worked there for a couple of years, but have only had the opportunity to return once since then. Kath. |

Welcome Bec,
I have two tailess Corgis, Rupert and Jemma. I have been to Australia twice, but never made it to Perth. In fact the 1st Corgi I ever saw and met was in Melbourne when I lived there. Twenty years later when I was able to get a dog of my own I chose a Corgi. Welcome and we hope to see lots of photos of young Douglas.

Welcome bec & Douglas! What a beautiful Pem he is, I love the diamond on his forehead! My (fluffy) Pem is named Jackie, and she's 14 months. She is definitely a heart-stealer, and makes you want more!
PS - Emilie . . . my first thought about your post was "ELLEN'S GOT A LITTER ON THE WAY???? hmmmm . . . "

Jessica-
I dont know if Ellen has one now, I doubt it as she had two litters earlier this spring and summer- but I just emailed her some new photos of Dillon - and gave her a heads up that next spring we will have to talk about the possibility of that second corgi boy!!! We will be seriously considering it- after all, what could be better than a corgi? TWO Corgis Emilie |
