Hello, My name is Jo Spencer
I own a 4 year old Corgi named Sweeti Pie....We have owned her since she
was a puppy. She has always been dominant, recently (after my daughter brought another puppy home) has developed some behavior problems. It took about 6 weeks, but she has begun playing with the puppy and seems to love him until feeding time comes around...This behavior I can handle. However, she has begun to chew. We keep the dogs in our bedroom while we are gone. This is their prefered place in our home. In the past 3 weeks, she has begun chewing items in the bedroom. She has also gone to the bathroom in the house once (this never happens). Any thoughts? thanks, Jo |

Hi Jo
I'm no expert but I am picking that Sweetie Pie is telling you that she feels anguish towards either shared affection with another dog or that the puppy is getting more than his share of attention in her mind. I would not have the dogs in your bedroom together. Leave Sweetie Pie in the room she prefers but put the other fellow somewhere else. Sweetie Pie needs space from the other dog and she needs your and your daughter's separate attention and affection regularly. It's a mistake to feed the pair together, but I'm sure you've sorted that out by now. Her name is a giveaway. She was Miss Sweetie for four years until this intruder came along and sliced up part of her close relationship with her family. Anyway, where there are two or more dogs in a household, generally the dogs need and deserve some separate time with their owners/family members- for affection, games, outings and exercising. |

Hi Jo
I see by your bio that you run a winery. I'm getting all the wine for my book launch (Amazing Dog Stories) on March 16 donated including from a vineyard called Dog Point. I've also arranged to have my own mock up labels put on four bottles of chardennay toi give to the MC, guest celebrity speaker etc as gifts. The bottles are titled Amazing Dogs and will include an outline of my Corgi. Have you sampled New Zealand wine? We produce some of the best wines in the world. Next month I'm going on a Round The Vines Fun Run - which is a 10 kilometre course taking in six vineyards with each of them having stalls for the runners and walkers full of free wine and fruit. I might take a long time to get to the finish line. It's one event my Pem, Taylor will not be participating except to be there to greet me at the finish. |

Mike, I am looking forward to getting a copy of your book as soon as it is released. I told you this before but there is likely to be others interested in a collection of dog stories. Good Luck with the launch, it sounds like fun. Jane

Hi Jane
Fun you say. I don't know about that. I've puting more effort into the launch than any story I wrote for the book. The MC (Master of Ceremonies) is going to dress up as a dog. I'll have to tell Taylor not to growl or bite any man-dog he sees at the launch. I've got this dread that though I've invited around 175people - not including the media - I'll remember only the names of my immediate family. Thank goodness, I'm going to type out my speech because it will avoid any thought chasms. And then if some of the heroic dogs turn up there might just be an unsophisticated dog brawl at worse or a Keystone cops-type dog chase at best. Every man and dog who turns up at the launch will receive a gift pack from a premium dog food company who are also puting up a major spot prize. I could arrange to post autographed copies of the book to anyone interested enough to pay for the book plus postage. The good news for buyers is that the rather inexpensive presentation of the book - there are 41 photos in the inside of the book - but none in color - means that it is retailing cheap. |

Hi JH
Will give GoCorgi members the opportunity to buy a copy of Amazing New Zealand Dog Stories following the launch. It will mean sending me a bank cheque with your name and address details and the message you woulld like inside the book, and I'll then forward the book in a padded envelope. Thanks for the thought. |
