Just wanted to introduce myself
Hi Everyone, we got a pembroke over a month ago. His name is Max and he was born on 06.06.06 --- I know, don't go there. Inspite of his daunting birth date, he is so playful, calm most of the time but will have bursts of incredible energy and we love that about him. I'm excited to find this forum and will soon be posting questions. This is our first corgi, actually, first dog for our family though I had dogs, as did my husband, before we were married. Looking forward to getting everyone's advise!

Welcome to the board. Max is a real cutie! I am the proud mom to Dillon, my 16 month old Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Your story sounds a little like mine, I never had a dog growing up, but my husband did and since we have been married ( approaching 10 yrs ) we never had a dog, but last year we were blessed with this little guy as my very first dog and as my husband's first dog as an adult. Oh he is our pride and joy, so much fun to be around.I would love to see more photos of Max, he is really adorable

Hi there and welcome - Max is a cute little fella.
I have a one year old Pem named Rhys (and I will soon have his sister, Andy, also). Rhys was my first Corgi, having grown up with a basset, border collies, and a lab.

Has this been going on since you brought Max home a month ago? Dark Green Crusty stuff always stuck on their privates is not normal - I have never seen that on my dog. Have you discussed this with your vet?; if I were you, I would call your vet tomorrow. Even if he has not shown any difficulites with urinating, I would have him checked out; that is not normal. +That's one of the best pics I have ever seen of a Corgi pup. Absolutely delightful. Wish yoiu joined sooner because I have just had an article published in a magazine about dreaming - and it's mostly concerning Corgis - and that photo of Max would have been PERFECT. As it was, I used a photo of two twin Golden Retriever pups both locked together and in dreamsville.

Just putting in another vote for the vet. Take him ASAP. That does not sound right to me. And let us know what happens!

He has not had any trouble urinating, and the vet has seen him many times and in fact max actually had an episode where they thought he had a blockage and so he had to stay with the vet for 2 days, so for sure, there would have been an opportunity for the vet to check it out further. I saw a little blurb about struvite crystals which makes his urine alkaline --- anyone think this might be it?

Did they take a Urine sample from him? Honestly, I don't know what to tell you about the Struvite Crystals (I thought it was most common in females) Cody never has had green crusty stuff on his privates - why don't you bring that up to your vet, but I am surprised that he would not have suggested that himself. Even if anyone on here thinks that Struvite Crystals may be the cause, we can't diagnose that, only a good qualified vet can. You said you have only had him for a month ; and your vet has seen him many times already? I guess if his privates are still green and crusty, and your vet thinks this is normal, I would look for another vet. Last edited by corgimom; 10-05-2006 at 11:13 AM. |
